The county I live in started issuing a different type of registration tag. Now, instead of the metal tag with a number engraved on it, you get a tag with a QR code on it.

You have to sign a paper the says that you understand that if Animal Services finds your dog, you WILL BE FINED.

I am not clear on why they needed the QR code to enforce this (they had a number on them before), but it might be a good idea. But, what's to stop someone from dumping a dog, and removing the tag beforehand?

Some commissioners friend or family's business probably just got a boost in sales. Isn't government wonderful?

Thoughts?

The thought of Radar getting "stolen" never occurred to me. I don't think it would be very smart for someone to try to steal Radar, anyway. :dsangry:

I just see one core component of this new system: Money.

I wouldn't be surprised if the company that makes the tags is owned by a friend, relative, or campaign contributor of someone high up in the county government or the animal services department. I assume the QR code makes it easier to look up the dog owner, so they can collect more money in fines.

I am curious to see if the new tags (plastic) hold-up for a year. All of Radar and Leela's metal engraved tags before now are completely unreadable by year's end.

I never put my tags on my girls anyway. Id ask why they change and what info is available if someone were to scan the code. Sadie and Cookie are chipped. I never chipped Thalie
