Rough Coat Puppy Available In USA
Okay, I'm not selling this puppy. I just want to pass along information that there's a rough coat puppy available. Looks like he's 4 months old.
"Due to a change in circumstances there is a young male Rough hair that is available.
He is out of FCI / UKC registered parents that are imported from the Netherlands.
If anyone is interested in more information visit this link:

"
I'd be interested if I didn't already have 3 wild ones in the house.

Minimal info. I see no hip/elbow ratings on the parents.
I would prefer if the breeder him/herself would sign up and tell about the combination?

Looks like they vacation a lot in my neck of the woods. I will keep my eyes out for those rough coats!!!
Cute pups, but I only could find newborn pics.

Re: Rough Coat Puppy Available In USA
This was a message sent through my USA FCI DS owners mailing list. Looking at the web page, there isn't any information on the pup or why it is suddenly available, so I am asking the sender about it out of curiosity. Both parents are hips Good and elbows Normal, but yes, I think that information should be on the website.
If you would prefer to delete this thread, that's okay with me.
I thought there might be some interest in the US for a rough coat puppy since they are so rare. But I do know of at least 3 new Rough puppies imported this year. I wish they lived nearby so I could visit.

No need to delete it, I don't think. This is a DS list and these are DS's.
Now that you were able to obtain the hip ratings, the post is completed. I hope they find a good home for the pup.

There's a cute photo of him on Facebook. I don't know the details, just says,
"Due to a previous placement for this young fellow not working out, this Rough Haired Dutch Shepherd 'Ruckus' is still available and looking for his forever home. He is located in PA, USA and he is out of FCI registered, parents imported from the Netherlands."

One that website they say they've only found 8 roughcoats in the entire USA. They are on the edge of distinction I'm affraid, also here in there homeland they are becoming rare.

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC

If that were true, we would have 25% of the population in our training club. I think that is a huge exaggeration. I'm not saying they are common, but there are considerably more than 8 in the US.Jan wrote: Me to.

That was my first thought to, there have to be more in the U.S. then just these eight mentioned on that website. But is is true however that this variety is in danger, at least in Europe.

Maybe 16? Just kidding.Christie M wrote:If that were true, we would have 25% of the population in our training club. I think that is a huge exaggeration. I'm not saying they are common, but there are considerably more than 8 in the US.
The AKC let the Laekenois into the registry as a breed with only 150 dogs registered with them (they usually want at least 250), however, I'm sure there are many more Laekenois in the country that aren't registered. No doubt, it's the same with the Rough DS. Just people out there minding their own business.

Re: Rough Coat Puppy Available In USA
I am the breeder of the pup available. After a lot of back and forth ultimately the one who reserved him couldn't take him and we still have him available. He is 4 months old now. He is out of Delilah vt Fuseliersnest (from Arno v Brabanstad and Coosje vt Fuseliersnest) and Kobus vt Loksterland (from Donar Dirk Ezali and Onze Noor vt Loksterland). Both parents are hips good and elbows unaffected, FCI, ARBA and soon UKC registered. He has a stable temperment and a willing to please attitude. He is by far the easiest puppy I have ever raised or worked with. His bite is good and his coat is beautiful and correct. Because two dogs are plenty for us, we would not keep him but hope to place him in the right home. I can send updated photos and more information if anyone is interested. He was one of 4 in the litter and his three sisters went to wonderful homes in Indiana and North Carolina.
I suppose I need to update that website - because of litters born and dogs imported, and unfortunately the passing of one, there are now 21 Rough Coated Dutch Shepherds in North America that I know of. Of course there could be more but I haven't found them yet. Thanks to Brenda Leli and Ron Acree's efforts in putting together a directory of Dutchies in the US perhaps we'll find more.
I think they are likely out there. Please contact me if you have any interest in the pup or would like more information at ranchowellen@yahoo.com.
Thanks Carole for the original posting. I should have gotten on sooner to see the posts and questions!

- Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
