Tell us about yourself: I am an IT professional, wife, mom of young adults, and pet lover.

We have two rescue dogs...a 5 year old cattle dog mix named Stella and a 6 month old puppy named Bailey. We adopted her several months back. We were originally told she was lab/plott hound, but then her ears started popping up. Now she is looking very much like a shepherd and several people have suggested Dutch Shepherd (she looks a lot like pictures I have seen on your forum). And we have a cute grey cat, Scout, who is not fond of either dog.

Hi all! I have been reading your forum for a while now (since our rescue Bailey’s ears popps up and several people suggested she looked like a DS). She is 6 months old. We got her at 14 weeks from a rescue org who said she was lab and Plott hound.

She looks a LOT like DS pics I have seen online and her ears are not hanging down like a lab or hound’s ears would. But also not fully up like a shepherd.

Hope the pics show up!

Thanks,
Holly

Really? Wow. I thought she would be a mix since she’s a rescue.

They do end up in shelters unfortunately. Everything about your dog's look is DS.

Welcome to fun times! If you haven't already, you may want to start looking around for a trainer familiar with the breed. It will make a world of difference in yours and your dog's future.

Thanks Michael! I have been looking at some local training options in Oregon.

Do you think a DNA test is worthwhile?

I would say that DNA is not necessary for breed identification, unless your really curious. However, the health screening for potential genetic problems might be a consideration.

And Steve, I’m surprised. I see maybe a bully breed mixed with something loveable.
