From Concord, NC
Expect to get a male Dutch Shepard soon.
This would be my first experience with this type of "working dog"
Have been around some Mals but never a Dutchie.
New to this type of training but not new to training/ campaigning dogs.
For many years trained and campaigned Labs and Spaniels for tests and Licensed trial competitions.
Both retriever and flushing events.
To have a consistently competitive field trial dog takes 5-6 days of training per week for most of their competitive life. Even though these "high roller" retrievers have huge prey drive and tremendous energy they are comfortable with winding down and resting after a a couple hours or days work.
With field trial training you need lots of land and much variety especially challenging water.
Usually involves lots of travel to train as its best to train in group to have enough help.
Also getting an adequate supply of live and frozen birds is getting more and more difficult.
Ready to try something else.
My friends think I am crazy!
Just wait till you try to force fetch that monster, they say! (inside retriever joke)

Re: New member Hello
Well, it seems that you’ll have all the drive you need to own a Dutch Shepherd and train him properly. Good luck and success to you.
