Verbal Cues for "Speak!"

Post by leih merigian » Thu Dec 30, 2010 5:17 pm

I am finally working on getting Geyser to bark on cue. I haven't wanted to work on that when she's barking at neighbor dogs, or pedestrians/bicyclists, etc., from the truck when we're out in the world, since I don't want her to think I'm rewarding her for barking at those things  .

Right now, I can bark at her (once) and she'll bark back (once). I've tried other methods, but this seems to be working the best  .

I need some ideas for verbal cues. I don't want to use "speak," as it sounds too much like "spin" to her (found that out already; she's so damn quick she's spinning when the "sp" part of that word is out of my mouth).

So, what cues do you all use for telling your dog to bark? With luck, I'll find one that I like (and can remember) and that doesn't sound too much like any of her other cues...

Question - I have always heard it said "Gib Laut." I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong. Can you tell me the translation for that??

Literally it means "give me loud" as in "give me your hand". So you are asking the dog to give you a noise. To say this on an examn however will cost you some point as you can only give 1 command, "laut!" it's like "sit nice" or "lie down" wher it should be one word ;) So "Gib" means "give".
In Holland you hear the same "geef luid" where "geef" also means "give".

thanks!

I'll probably go with the German, since I was born there, and gib laut doesn't sound like anything else we're using right now.
