Shelter dog becomes a police dog in Burlington, NC. Link
www.thetimesnews.com wrote:Shadow, an estimated 1-year-old Dutch shepherd, is the newest addition to the Burlington police force.

Arias says they’re always on the lookout for higher-energy dogs that might be better suited for police work than being house pets, and Shadow fit the bill.

Woman in Indiana "pays it forward" by donating a K9 bullet proof vest. Link
Ruth Myers said her decision to save up enough money to purchase a K-9 bulletproof vest for the Seymour Police Department was the result of someone doing something nice for her.

Ace is a 6½-year-old Dutch shepherd and has been working with Surface on the streets for five years.

*Note - I initially struggled with whether to share this story, but I felt like it was important. At a minimum, it's a lesson to be learned about mixing serious dogs with carelessness.

Marshall County woman recovering after dog attack Link
www.kten.com wrote:A retired police dog was shot and several other dogs are set to be quarantined after a woman was mauled in this small Marshall County community about eight miles south of Kingston.

...

A volunteer firefighter who is currently away from home battling wildfires in northwest Oklahoma owns the dogs involved in the incident.

...

The man told KTEN he adopted a retired police K-9, a Dutch Shepherd, to help with his security work.

...

Michelle Slaughter was released from the hospital on Friday afternoon. She's expected to make a full recovery.

There's more info if you click the link, but apparently she was just out walking, and someone had left the gate open.

There's a lot of unanswered questions to the story, though.

AKC National Agility Champion - "Flash" Flasher Dasher, a Dutch Shepherd handled by Amanda Wilson

You can watch Flash's run at AKC.tv - starts at 55:47

It's interesting to hear the play-by-play announcer say "That's a Dutch Shepherd. You don't see them very often."
