quite some time ago, a neighbor gave my dog a throw or fetch stick made of 4-ply reinforced nylon and natural rubber. it is about 16in. long, 2in. diameter, and hollow inside. it is heavy. one would NOT want your dog to try to catch this or for it to land on your dog. as my dogs move faster than i can throw it, i have to fool them/divert attention so that i know it will land on ground before they can get to it.
but this thing has remained indestructible through 6 DS. it has stayed in the yard for several years and the dogs play with it almost every day whether i get involved or not. they toss it, run with it, steal it from each other, and try to eat it to no avail. it looks almost new.
this is not a recommendation per se, but there have often been questions about fetch toys that last - so some of you might want to look into this product. brand: Hyper Products, product: Stick [ large ].
again though, this is NOT [!!!] a CATCH toy and one would need to be very careful that it not meet up with a dog in mid-air as it would do damage.

- Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. He died july17,2012. i am dying without him. www.youtube.com/tracesobaka www.dogster.com/dogs/637612
