WHITE SPOTS?

Hello,

I just wanted some advice from you fellow Dutch enthusiasts. I recently got an 8 week old DS puppy from a breeder in the New Orleans area. She is an awesome puppy so far, high drive and very smart. She was sitting on command from the moment I picked her up from the airport.

Anyways, I just wanted your thoughts on her coloring. She is brindle with a black mask. What I was concerned about was the white marking on her chest, and she also has two small white spots on her rear feet above the nails. I know some of you are DS enthusiasts and I'm sure there are some fanatics on here, I really don't need a lecture about how her lines aren't top notch. I guess my main concern is, is she pure bred DS with a couple faults (white spots) or does this mean somewhere in her lines she was cross bred somehow. I appreciate the help in advance!

Sadie has a big white "jet" on her chest and a little white beard on her chin and I am the last one to talk about bloodlines. I do remember something about they arent supposed to have white. One of our smarties will remeind me. But that face is so cute you wont even see the white.

Sugar had a bit of white on her chest when she was a pup that has pretty much disappeared now, looked exactly like on yours did when she was small...so things may change a bit with her fur as she grows. Now, at 2.5 yrs, Sugar has a lot of white under her chin, LOL...

White on the chest is acceptable in the breed standard I believe, as long as it is not too much. White on the toes is not uncommon at all. She is beautiful, and I would assume from working lines (most common for white showing up). Those are badges of courage!!

The toes will turn dark, a little white will grow away, she will have a liitle white chest spot but not very big. Do you know her lines, cause the little white beard is pretty common for dogs who has our Wibo ( or his littermate Carlos) in their line

She probably knpv bloodlined DS, like the most dutchies in the US. In the pedigreed DS it is not favoured to have white spots, but small like these are probably accepted.

Ps from Eric? He has 2 females who has our bloodline in them.

Thank you for all the information. She is definitely a cute dog and I could care less about the white spots, her personality makes up for it all. I just wanted to see 1. If the white will subside or get worse 2. That she is pure bred DS. I trust the breeder completely but who knows.

She came from Outlaw K9 in Louisiana. It is a small kennel that breeds the DS, GSD, and Mals.

Odin has a white tie on his chest and a few small white areas on his toes, although his pedigree is unknown. Elgos is behind a lot of mals and some DS/mal mix lines and he had a huge white chest. Odin's main squeeze is an Elgos great-grand daughter. She has a tiny white dot on the chest and her nephew that we train with has a bigger spot and a toe.

The UKC standard allows for
"Very small white accents may occur on the breast and/or on the feet... Faults (all coat types): Too much white on the breast. Too much white on the feet. Wrong colors. Mis-markings.

Serious Faults: White stripes or white spots on any part of the body other than the breast or feet."

Are you planning on doing conformation with your pup? If not, a little white isn't a big deal at all and I think it gives them a little character.

Oh I forgot about the chin hair! Odin's been going gray on his muzzle since his second birthday and it's probably my favorite thing about him appearance wise. His scars also grow back white so he has random white hairs now where his girlfriend abuses him.

another new member [ see ''new DS owner'' in new member announcements - ryangoode66 (I think !) ] also just got a very impressive and beautiful pup from 'outlawK9' !
now having had 4 DSs in my life, I have a soft-spot and definite prejudice FOR DS with white on chest [ and toes].
my first [ who unlike yours might not have been full-breed] had enough chest white that extended up the neck that it would qualify as a fault. he also had white toes on all 4 feet. all loved all that white [ his white bib]; it gave him a look of tremendous character - as did his one ear that was broken [ bent in a sharp line] an inch or so down from the tip. anyway, he had more combined intelligence, comprehensive understanding, and environmental stability than I will ever find again in a dog. you can see video of him at http://www.youtube.com/tracesobaka -- and photos of him in a few of my postings. between my experience and my observation of others, more white in these acceptable areas suggests to me, on average, a more balanced and more clever DS.
between you and ryangoode, it sounds like this breeder may be doing something right.

p.s., Tracedog did have a black snout [ not a full face or head mask as it did not extend past his eyes ] when he was younger but he started going quite white around the snout around 4-5 years old; by the time of the videos he was 8 or 9 yo.

white patch photos of Tracedog - very big white patch! at 6 months and 11+ years old.
[ in his 6-month photo, it was just 2 weeks since he was taken off the streets of lower manhattan, nyc, as a stray, so he was very uncertain as his new dad was busy at this damn art museum opening.]

I'll leave this link here; my dog's pups Riddick x Snap. The female had a large white patch, all the male pups ended up with large white patches as well. Both dogs are pure dutchies, even though both are KNPV, if you look at their actual lines with the photos you'll see it's Dutchies. Of course all Dutchies have Mal in them, the breed would have been gone a long time ago had it not been interbred with Mal's as the entire lines got bottleknecked during WWII.

Scroll down till you see "Puppies from Previous Litters" and it has Snap x Riddick pups. Large white patches on some, perfectly normal for these working dogs.
