Tell us about yourself: Hello, we have rescued a new addition. His name is Kitty and he was saved from poor conditions in downtown L.A.. we saw him posted on craigslist and couldnt srop thinking about him, the next day we decided he was the one. As we had been looking at getting a pup anyways. We were told he was 8 weeks when we got him and he had been dewormed, and had shots. We were alao told he was a black lab and Australlian shepard mix. After a trip to the vet the next day, none of that held up. HE WAS ONLY 6 WEEKS!!!! had worms and no shots. Weighed 7.4 pounds, happy to inform 3 weeks of having him anf he is a whopping 15 pounds!

so we have been noticing Kitty has a line down the center of his back where his hair is longer and more course. I was just curious is any other dutch shepherd owners out there had noticed this in their puppies?

Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

It's hard to tell from the pictures. My last ds, Rawly, was like that. His hair was short and soft but had longer and more course down the center of his back his tail and his but hair. His neck chest and legs were shorter and soft. Actually Xander's hair is a little more course on his back but it's all long.

The last picture if you zoom in you can see it fairly well. Its like a wave pattern up his back. Yeah kitty has very long course hair on his tail as well. Someone approached me today and asked to pet him and then saw that and asked is he was a rodesian ridgeback.... never even heard of them bedore today. Was just curious if thats how long jis fur would be when full grown or if it was growing fastee than then rest or what. Thnk you! !!! :)

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. i do not have a photo of his back closer to his tail [ like your last pic ] where the effect is most evident visually, but maybe you can get some slight sense in these, especially the first and the last. in the 3rd pic, Tracer is inspecting the ridge wondering if he also has such fuzzy coarse hair like Xander's.

Tell us about yourself: I am a husband and father of 3, one bouncing boy and two fur-babies (one Dutch Shepherd/Malinois Mix and one Alaskan Malamute). I am military and have experience training and working with detection and protection canines although I am not a working dog handler. My Dutch is just over 2 years old. I have spent countless hours training our dogs and enjoy the work. Both have strong drive and motivation towards training but enjoy being rambunctious when I am away.

When my DS was a puppy I noticed the same type of thicker, course hair growing down the center of his back as well. He is about 2.5 years old and still has it however, as he developed his coat as he grew, it started to blend more but it is still noticable to me. His brother and sister still have it as well.

Stacy: me, too, as you know! i am soooooooooo lucky to have found him [ or rather to have a friend who found him on the edges of ABMRC and recognize that he was the right dog for me ]. his understanding of what is around him is truly exceptional while he also has this joyful personality - amazing when one considers how many bee-bees were embedded in him when he arrived here from TX. i have wondered a lot recently how much more advanced he would be if he had me to himself - the natural thought extension of marveling at his intellectual understanding despite being raised with 2 other puppies and only 1 human. some dogs just start out so good and one's main objective should be to not mess it up and with care to help the dog build on that greatness. [ that was my objective told to friends a few hours after meeting TD; i really had to do so little except guard his mental and physical well-being and he did the rest.]
