Tell us about yourself: I am 31, from Alberta, Canada, and I just adopted an 8-10 month old male Dutch shepherd from my local SPCA. I'm really looking forward to getting to know him and learning how to work with him to bring out the very best of his potential.

Dutch origin

Just curious, at times, Remy carries himself like a wolf when he walks, his head low. Also, his enormous feet splay out in the front and his legs are quite long.

Now I'm not suggesting he has wolf dog in him, his ears are far too big. But, he does display a certain....lupine quality that I didn't expect to see in a shepherd.

How did the Dutch shepherd come to be? What were the foundation dogs? Did they ever use wolf dog out crosses in the beginning?

P.s. How do I post a picture?

Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

Posting pictures: look at the bottom of where you type a post. Click on upload attachment. Click on Choose a file and once it is chosen click add the file. But beware, you may have to crop or resize your photo so the file won't be to big.
