Found: Brindle Shepherd in Alhambra, CA on 1/1/15 around 7pm

Hi all, not sure if this is allowed or if I'm in the right forum, or if it's even a Dutch Shepherd but I found something that looks like one wandering the streets of Alhambra, CA (South Fremont Avenue) on January 1st and took him in. Posted pics/ads on craigslist, various facebook groups, and on the local shelter's websites. The shelter for our area receives several hundred dogs per day.

he really is a gorgeous DS. yes, he is a DS; and he looks very young.

THANK YOU so much for rescuing him and trying to find his home.

he might have an implant that a local vet or the shelter could read with a scanner to find where he belongs.
i would also contact North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue [via their facebook page or tel # we can supply] to ask if they have a report of a DS gone missing. [ edit: such a report would probably be posted right there on facebook.] that is the most likely non-local place that an owner would probably post for help, etc. [ better if you find an owner looking for his DS rather than attract people who may not be his real owners.]

truth be known, if that dog wound up on my doorstep and the owner did not quickly follow, that dog would not be leaving my house. looks beautiful physically and personality-wise!

Thanks for the replies. He's doing well, been to the local outdoor mall and dog park and he did great. Gets along with our little rat terrier/chihuahua mix and is friendly to other dogs, kids, and humans.

Is still a bit underweight but will slowly up the food. Apparently he wasn't on a grain free diet before =)

He's on the NDSR facebook page too with a found dog link. Still not 100% on the breed though, others think he is a belgian malinois.

He does get a lot of compliments though IE "beautiful dog", "gorgeous dog", that our mutt never got =(

IDK...my general experience is that when someone loses a beloved animal, they turn the world upside looking and alerting people.

It's awesome you were able to get a hold of him and are now taking care of him, too. Good for you, good for him.

I shared with a trainer friend that lives in Long Beach and has malinois. She's in a French Ring club in LA and hopefully she can pass it along and help you find the owner.

Nublar, re the Belgian Mal comments, many people who have learned of Malinois have not [yet] heard of Dutch Shepherds, so for them a DS IS a striped Mal. very close anyway.

Sharon, i think your [IDK] thought related to my point: that if an owner does not make every effort to get to the dog quickly, then the dog may well be better off in new hands that care [ and, if those hands are my hands, then i assume the dog is better with me than an owner who is nonchalant about a great dog that goes missing ]. i think in TraceDog's case that he was purposefully dumped on the street; DEFINITELY, know one looked for him - which, as opposed to LA, would have been easy in the Village - and i made no effort to find his home for fear that he might return to where he was not wanted.
