new Schutzhund club - OG Landshark

Post by icvanstra »

For anyone who lives in Central Indiana and would like to work with a new Schutzhund club ... OG Landshark is now there for you.

...okay...you don't have to be just in Central Indiana! If you are up for driving you can definitely do it.

New Schutzhund club in Indianapolis - O.G. Landshark. Mostly members who left OG Indianapolis (for all the usual reason that clubs split).

Their website is not up yet but it will probably be: http://www.oglandshark.com

I don't have much more information for you at this time, but will let the group know when I know...

What's with the OG? I know what it stands for (in German) but I have trouble envisioning a bunch of Indianians  pronouncing it or knowing the meaning? Just loyal to the 'Faterland?' Or something entirely diffrent that has escaped me? :duh:

I was going to say that Judith...
Tell me it doesn't actually mean OrtsGruppe, and when it does I want audio of the members pronouncing it

personally... I have no idea why so many of the Schutzhund clubs use the "O.G."

When I asked I was told it stands for 'organized group' ... so Judith it is for ortsgruppe.

 I will leave the explanation of that one to Marjolein. She moved to Krautland and has to speak a lot of German these days. But 'ort' has nothing to do with organised. The group/gruppe part is at least correct.
I second the motion that I would love to hear y'all (speaking Texan here....) pronounce OtsGruppe.
So may I assume that the dogs also get told to Aus, Fuss, Platz and Hoch and all that good stuff? :yernuts:

Depends...most of the people train in German. A handful use Czech commands and one person uses French.

I thought it would be fun to train my next pup in Dutch. But I already mix English and German and I'm using then interchangeably depending on what class I'm in or org I'm showing in. Not sure if I can handle a third. Lots of the Mali people seem to use French.

I've had French dogs and the poor things would get everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them.
If all went well, they were addressed in French. If I was tired, sometimes they'd accidentally get addressed in English. Once I got mad  they'd get Dutch hurled at them. Yet they always knew JUST what I needed them to do, regardless of the 'unknown' language I was using. I probably does not matter much at all what you use. There may be a translation delay, but I suspect pretty much any language will get the job done.

First Friends up in Fishers, IN.

The owner when I first started going there bred GSD's and used to do Schutzhund...he was a very heavy handed, yank that chain, make your dog submit, kind of trainer.

He sold some time back and the current owner is more middle of the road. ...i.e. work through reward/drive/motiviation/etc but you need to know when to give the proper correction. Not the kind of place you are going to find the Halti's or Gentle Leader's.

It's funny, when I'm around Broad Ripple and I see people making their dog sit at intersections and such...then when the dog doesn't it's a quick flick of the wrist and a verbal "aught" .... 9 times out of 10 they went to First Friends.

:? Not sure what opinion to pick out of your 'First friends' remark in the last paragraph?
Are you in agreement with the middle of the road attitude, or do you prefer harsher or softer treatment?
To me too, it is ask, tap, spank. More or less. So I am wondering what your preference is.
