Hi I'm Brian from the most north part of LA county. For the last few months I have been doing a lot of research on getting a shepherd dog and fell in love with everything about the Dutch shepherd. I'm a very active and a huge outdoor person. I am in the process of buying a male DS puppy from 4 Bar D Kennels. I was looking for a protective/active family dog and loved how beautiful the DS so it seemed obvious that it was the one for me. I can't wait for my little buddy to get here in a few weeks. I'm going to put him obedience classes and protective classes. I look forward to chatting with everyone on here and learn from you guys.

Welcome to the forum! Have you checked references for the kennel you plan to get your pup from? Asked other DS owners? Especially from people that do the sort of training you want to do? I've sadly never heard good things about 4 bar D or their dogs. Also, since the Canadian Kennel Club doesn't recognize the breed, the ckc registry that this breeder uses is continental kennel club, which is considered by most a puppy mill registry and is no reflection of a properly registered dog.

I have a good friend in Long Beach with a lot of malinois/DS experience who owns a training center/kennel and participates in Ring Sport and PSA that would be a really great reference for you since you're new to the breed and everything.

Thank you Lyons I did some more research on the breeder and not reputable at all. Wanted me to chose my puppy right when they were born without knowing the personality. Did not feel trustworthy. He had reviews on the internet calling them a puppy mill. I did not want to take the chance.
