I see definite DS traits....4 legs, with paws attached, and a tail. Must be a DS.

Of course who am I to saw, I thought my pitbull was a DS.

Wow.

Leela is 17% pit bull!

She's also 7% chow an 7% akita.

Can anyone else guess what she's 55 and 14%?

Despite fitting 90% of the conformation for a mal, there is no mal in her.

Hmmm. You know, that kind of makes me suspicious on results. Does she have any Akita or Chow traits? Both breeds are so distinct. And just how many Chows and Akita are our there that they keep coming up in breed results?

But my guess is lab.

Wow, I would not have guess German Shepherd just because of her body shape.

Are we to assume that one parent was a full German Shepherd or that both parents were half pure German Shepherd ? lol

Similarity in body type, but obviously not color.
Which leads to a question; genetically speaking, which traits are more consistent in lineages- color, or morphology?

Mustang came back 100% Dutch Shepherd in the Embark Results.

Not a total surprise, except I was thinking maybe at least a small % of Malinois.

These two are siblings or parents. Hilde's owner got him from Decatur, GA Animal Services - the same city I picked up Mustang from.

I was looking at Mustang's relatives farther down the list, and somehow he is 23% related to a 100% Belgian Malinois.

I know how that happens. I think it really means that Embark used DSxMals as it's map for purebred DS. I am also thinking that Wisdom's test may be more accurate.

Wisdom said Radar was 50/25/25 % DS, Mal, GSD while Embark said he was 100% DS.

I guess Mustang will have to get a Wisdom test too.

Mustang and Radar have at least one common relative.

E'BOB (https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/ebob) shares 26% of Radar's DNA and 20% of Mustang's DNA.

*** Unlocking Mustang's Background through DNA ***

Through the Embark relatives space, I was able to chat with Hilde and Moose's owners.

Hilde is most likely Mustang's mother. She is estimated to be 3-4 years old and was picked up by the same animal services place that Mustang came from along with another dog Mustang's age about 4 months prior to Mustang's capture.

Moose, who is 4, is now a SAR dog, but was originally impounded from a drug dealer in Oregon. I have to assume that Moose is Mustang's uncle, because they said he's never been bred. His sire was imported from the Netherlands, but the dam was purchased in the US.

The drug dealer's girlfriend took Moose's two sisters to Georgia, and I suspect that Hilde is one of those sisters.

Moose's sire (Nacho) is now working for ICE as a narcotics dog. He was also impounded in the raid on the drug dealer.

It's good to know that Mustang has some real working genes in his bloodline. :wtg:

I found out that Moose's owner knows my trainer through the SAR work.

Such a small world!
