A fun hike

Post by dutchringdog »

The weather the past few days has been absolutely perfect! So the kids, all four ( 2 human 2 canine) decided to go for a hike.

Sadie is in front, red eyes, and Thalie is in back, grey nose.
I have some more pictures to upload, I think I have more pictures of the dogs than kids, but since this is a doggy board, thats good.

The trail was a nice wide trail and it lead to the river, Sadie is really taking to the water, she will go deep but keep her feet on the ground. Thalie will swim all day. Someone left some old food at a fire pit and of course they kept trying to get it. :dsrazz: The kids would throw sticks into the water and Thalie would get them and Sadie would just bark. Everyone is passed out now from a fun afternoon.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Very nice! We hiked too, but got turned back early because of a baby bear on the trail... I love the big smile they have in the water!

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Love the one of Sadie holding her lead. Maybe trying to fish? Or to find her way back to dry land---has she learned to swim?

When she is excited she holds her lead, she will do that too when we are just running around the yard, she always has to have something in her mouth. She still wont go far enough out to swim, she still just flails around and slaps her legs in the water. She will stand in it all day though and bark at Thalie.
