No, they don't, each variety has its own competition on shows which means in this particular case Joep didn't have any competitors. And there are different classes as well such as baby dogs from 3-6 months, puppys from 6-9 months, juveniles from 9-18 months, in betweens from 18-24, open class starting from 15 months and veterans from 8 years. And there are other classes possible as well such as males and females apart from each other.
This show was mainly to get some experience both for him as for me.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.
So Gypsy is a long hair DS...I saw a dog once that looked just like her. We were passing by each other and I couldn't stop to talk but we all mentioned how our dogs looked alike as we passed by but with short or long hair and it crossed my mind that the other dog looked like a long haired DS but I also thought "what are the odds" and before I could ask about their dog they were gone. Wow!
Tell us about yourself: Dogs are my life, what can I say. GSDs primarily for nearly 50 years til bringing in my first DutchShep about 4 years ago. GSD rescue for 9 yrs, nearly 200 thru my home, rehabbed, adopted out. Been involved in AKC ob, herding, tracking, agility; Schutzhund-DVG; scent detection (HR-water)&narcotics, some patrol work. Mostly herding training at present on my little farm.
What a treat for us to see this variety. Gypsy's coloring is intriguing. I'm not used to seeing so much coat on a DS. I noticed several van Neerlands. Judith, any relation?
Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.
Wow...they sure grow up fast, don't they? He looks wonderful, and it was great to see all those varieties...

No the ones that are named "van Neerlands erf" That is FCI longhair stock.
The shorthair, however... Gash. I have a Nico granddaughter that looks just like it.
Tell us about yourself: My name is Katrina, I have 1 dutch shepherd name Merlin. He is a handful and keeps things in our house very interesting and fun :)
