What a nice, nice story about a boy, his dog, his grandfather, and fishing. I saw it unfold in my head as I read it.

As for Radar, he wants to blaze his own trail.

Yup! I think that's why we have all fallen in love with these stubborn beasts.

Tell us about yourself: Howdy,
We are a family of rescues, (yeah, me included), in Southern California. My wife and I currently have two dogs, a Golden Retriever/ GSD mix by the name of Morgan, and our DS mix(?), Dinga Roo. We had never even heard of a Dutch Shepherd before until we were stalked by this nice lady in the pet store who asked us if Roo was a DS. Dang if that lady wasn't on to something. I just found this site, so here we are....

Bananas, Roo does not like bananas.
If I'm eating a banana and give her a piece, she'll hold it between her teeth with a panicked "Oh, yuck" look on her face. She won't even let her lips touch it. It's funny as hell, so we give them to her every now and again just for fun......
Kevin, Debby,
Dinga Roo (DS mix), John's Goddaughter and Tyson's twin,
and Morgan too (Retriever/GSD mix).
Loving memories of our GSD Charly who passed at 17 years. (4/18/13).

How can you tell a story like that and not give us a video. That's just wrong.

And mean.

Hahaha! Yeah, really!

I seem to have discovered doggy crack. Dehydrated beef lung. They will do anything for it.

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Yep, it's beef. Meijer carries it in big tubs. I have to scrutinize the labels when I get treats at meijer, though,. So many of their treats are made in China and I only get treats that come from the U.S.

H will battle me to the death for sushi. He's stolen enough I finally gave up and get him a piece or two of nigiri. He'll do a backflip for it. He also loves anything with duck, liver, or lung. Though if I had to guess I think nigiri rules above all followed closely by duck.

I think Primal makes freeze dried beef lung too Dusty. They also make some other really awesome stuff H will do anything for.

H hates anything squishy (except bananas and eggs). If you give him a berry it has to be cut up or else he'll chew it, stick out his tongue, drop it, pick up, chew, rinse, repeat. The whole time he stares at it like it's an alien. Not nearly as funny as Dinga's (to which I agree - video is needed!!!!) hatred of bananas!

my 3 will eat anything except raspberries and, even worse, blackberries, relating to them just like Mr.H.
but Tracer discovered strawberries [ we have both regular - and then tiny wild ones by the 1000's ] and will rummage through the garden and the wild berry patch looking to find them before i do. he gets bug-eyed at the prospect of consuming a strawberry - like the effect when last summer he discovered sungold tomatoes, his favorite variety though he will eat any including tomatillos, which the 2 puppies steal by the dozens off the bushes in the fall.

they all greet any treat with such enthusiasm so it is hard to pinpoint a favorite, but TraceDog had two favorites that stood way above anything else. first was a hard, twirled stick of tripe that was so disgustingly stinky -- something i only found for him in one tiny dog store in Manhattan's funky East Village.
second was a dental stick called Fresh Sticks that i gave him every bedtime for the last 7 years of his life. opening the bag, he would act like a cat watching a tractor-trailer filled with catnip being opened - he just could not control his joy.
the bad news is that this treat is no longer available. it was made by a single bakery - not a pet food company - in CA, which distributed them through pet channels for only 2 years before discontinuing production.
