Sightings are being called in slow, this long after the posters first went up.
I re postered some area's where people had taken them down and one call came in yesterday. A mother reporting that the 3rd grade class had collectively spotted a black wolf outside. The teacher did not see it and dismissed it. The parents, of course, dismissed it too. Until one of the kids saw a poster on the way home and felt vindicated. "See? That's the wolf we saw! "

Awwwww. I love it when kids get to be right sometimes. Glad she is still alive and keeping people on their toes!! She seems to like the playground. Perhaps Red Riding Hood could help???

I think she went trick-r-treating at Halloween as the wolf, alongside the kids. And now that her stash of candy is gone she is getting back out there.

After I left DC, she had (of course) been sighted again. Just like after my first trip.
But the good news this time, is that some young teens actually were surprised by her in their back yard. She came up to them, and they got to pet her. One of them even got a hold of her collar, when his buddy told him to let it go: 'someboy will catch her'
It seems as if she is thinking about acting like a dog again. Please keep your fingers crossed.

Sounds like she is ready. And with this 'arctic blast' that is moving thru the US, maybe she will be more inclined to seek out a warm bed.

Speaking of arctic blast, seeing all the weather programs of the NW, my heart goes out to you all. BURRRRRR!!! It is nice and balmy 80 degrees, breezy, but very humid right now in the deep south. Ready for a freeze to kill some of these skeeters and fire ants!

It's great that she still has a collar on.

It must be so frustrating to have had her in someone's actual grasp, then they just let her go .

She went into a stranger's backyard and let them pet her...that has to be a sign that the wild is losing its appeal? Fingers and paws still crossed!

Just wanted to give you a bit of news that may help you keep your hopes up! I just read a news article in the Denver Post about a dog (cattledog mix) that ran off right after being adopted and wandered outside for 5 months, same thing, people would see him and try to get him to come close but he stayed away. They just got him last week using a trap!

Keeping our fingers crossed for you out here in Denver!

I use to work at a shelter and have a similar story of a cattle dog who was missing for 7 months! She was living on Camp Pendleton for about a month or two, we called her the ghost dog. We had several complaints... and then we saw her! It took a few more weeks of us chasing, and then we borrowed a trap, and that day we caught her. She still had her id tag on, we called the numbers and got the owners. They were so happy, they had boarded her with her breeder, and she had escaped. The people on base said they had been feeding her for a while but she would never let the touch her. She was so happy to see her owners, I can not explain it!, and likewise, I was crying my eyes out. I hope to read a happy ending for you too.

I just saw this ad in CL Washington, I just want to make sure this is not the missing dog. The ad said they adopted it from the shelter in Dec. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 08279.html

That ad caught my breath for a moment. First instinct "no". Then "maybe" then "OMG" then back to no, because of the white spot on the chest. It certainly is a look alike and although the fugitive got along very well with other dogs and was not food aggressive when she left, I can only imagine how that could have changed. Great find Kimkim and I THANK you profusely.
I will investigate a little more anyway in that direction, but last reports about my fugitive include two sightings in the past few weeks, still in the general area where she got loose. One of the sightings had her digging out rabbit holes at 1 AM. A couch would have been so much better.

the kids let thalie out by mistake once and she didnt come home for two nights, she would take a walk and come right back but this time she didnt. I cried like never before. I put up a flyer and my neighbors had her, they also had DS. Im thinking of you

I think I will ask her what the h*^^ she was thinking and then hug and hug and hug some more.
It is, indeed incredible. She is always referred to as the 'black wolf' by almost anyone that has seen her. In more ways than just looks, it seems.
For those who cannot imagine how it feels: I hate to admit it, but you get used to it. It is always in the back of my mind, and with every stray or loose dog I see. But the frantic has worn off, simply because I think nobody could function in the state that you are in in those first few days. I now try to have the longest breath and hopefully finally outsmart her.

No use staying frantic all this time. It does neither you or the dog any good. Not to mention the rest of your pack... people included. I know last week Steve called and told he lost Gwen. I was a complete mess for about 40 minutes but there was nothing I could do, I was out of state and not due to return for several days. She eventually came home a few hours later like she takes trips around the neighborhood on a regular basis, cool as a cucumber.
