Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

You know I don't take many photos & I regret not having many of my old girl. Got a bit bored yesterday and decided I was emotionally ready (wrong) to dig out what I have and scan them into the computer. Quality is not real great but thought I'd share.
Carrie's first home (not to be blamed on the breeder in this case) consisted of a crate in a cellar--out to pee a few times a day, eat, then back to the cellar.
I got her at about 7months, not housebroken, didn't respond to her name, NO training,very little socialization, and inhibited ability to learn (she more or less lost part of the puppy hood when they "learn how to learn". After a few months of :wall: I decided to teach "tricks" so she could finally be rewarded for something!

Some obedience, kind hands, treats, she started to come around and relax.

Then I told my daughter that she HAD to have kids, so she did, and Carrie loved them!

Continued to love them all as they grew.

And she grew into a self-confident, beautiful girl. Good bloodlines can overcome bad beginnings.

It was a great priviledge to have known and loved this dog.
I hope others who have taken dogs from bad beginnings will work through the rough spots in the beginning because it's damn sure worth it in the end.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Tell us about yourself: I like Dutch Shepherddogs, especially the roughcoat. At the moment we have three dogs, two DS (one female who is 10 years and one male who is six months) and one male Laekenois at the age of three. We live in the north of The Netherlands.

Tell us about yourself: Rescued our first DS male on Dec 27, 2011. Approx 4 yrs. Rescued from NADSR. His name is Odin. Adopted a 2nd DS from NADSR June 27, 2012. Kai - 6 months.

Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.

For those who don't know--Atos was a Robbie Van Leeuwen son.
I believe Dianne was snowballed by the first owner. (As were many others--in many different breeds-- the wonders of Internet advertising.)

Christie, I'm VERY sure you personally know some of the other folks who had dealings with this woman years ago, and were also snowballed for a time. Glad she is out of dogs---hope it stays that way.

I know I sold a dog once, a malinois pup, to a woman who claimed to be a Police officer in Alabama. She 'lost' the pup a few days after she got it and the deeper we dug into it, the more horror stories of other people came floating to the top. I had not thought about her for years now. It would be wonderful if that was the same person. Mary Beth being out of dogs would be a true blessing.

Not the same person, tho I hope yours is also gone.
PM me if you'd like, you may know her through another breed. To my horror, the last I heard, she was thinking about getting another DS to get back into dogs with!!!! :thunder:
