Everyone around here is excited that we are looking at "good" temperatures for the Super Bowl. All that means is that I'm going to have lousy weather for camping! When it's warmer that means it is damp and muddy.

For those of you outside of the United States; there is an annual game in which the winning team claims to be "World Champion" even though there is only one country participating in the sport... Just happens to be the championship game is being played in my city this weekend.

For the Dutch on this forum .. that would be a distant cousin to the the Korfball World Championships where only a handful of countries in Europe play the game... Or a very small version of the World Cup. Instead of 1/2 the world watching only 5% of the world watches it!

The okay temperatures for this annual camping trip are highs in the range of 20'F/-6C and some of the best trips have been -20F/-30C or just a little warmer...

Anyway, I'm out of here later this week for the annual camping trip. The guys have been doing this for over 20 years and I think this is my 17th year.

So, you may be asking why the "Bah Humbug"? ...well that is because I have to kennel the dogs. Going to miss them!!!

DUDE - I would pick camping in muck and easier to heat weather ALL DAY LONG compared to icey cold, lets all of us boys huddle to watch the game, weather. I love you completely, but I have never understood this trip. But the more heat, the MORE WARMTH. This is simple math.

You should take the dogs to law on your legs too. Let me tabboo this whole trip.

But if you are missing football style, man-warmth, then I am sorry you are missing it this year

I know it sounds odd.. but it is easier to stay warm when it's a bit colder.

When the temperature gets in the range above freezing then things get damp, wet, muddy, etc. Once your damp you can't stay warm...

Wish I could take the dogs but the rules were set after the first time a wife went ... no wives, no girlfriends, no dogs!

i do understand about the dampness, when its cold its dryer and its easier to warm up. I bike and on cold dry days we seem to stay warmer riding. last sunday was warm but damp and we were cold the whole ride.

Poor doggies!! Bad rules ! No wives but Yes dogs !

We didnt get any winter this year. No freezes and temps have been averaging 50-75 degrees days, 40s at night. Skeeters and fire ants are out in huge masses already. Makes for awful baited tracking. The grasses are still green and the pine trees are budding so there is pollen everywhere. Guess I should feel blessed.

Poor Denise! that's a really lousy winter! I really like getting the break of a decent winter; no spiders or their freaking webs across trails , stuff like that.

In VA, we've had a very nice winter...mostly in the 50s, so way too cold for the bugs you're having, but cold enough (especially since it goes down to the 30s at nite, so mornings are still very chilly).

Eric...have a blast. I love to camp, but I'm not much for winter camping (tho I bet you don't have to worry much about crowds, which I hate )

I am sure about the wives/girlfriends rule. Because otherwise, it would have been no beer, no booze, no cursing, farting, burping, groping, shooting, and misbehaving.
Just don't understand how a dog could mess up a men-trip. Unless you have to take your wife's sweatered yorkie or something, that would be a drag.....

If I had to make a choice I would go on camping trip too although I don't like it at all.
