I am at my wits end. One of my 'pups' a 3 year old bitch, ran off from her brand new home Monday morning 9-27. She is half a country from what was familiar to her, people and places, and since eveyone has chased her since, she now seems sure that the world has tuned against her and is just running in a huge circle around where she wandered off from. I want her found, safe and sound, and so does her family. The usual protocol of posters and alerts to Animal control, vets, mailmen, and neighbors has been set up. All your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. And if there is anyone in the West Springfield, Virginia area (Fairfax county, Washington DC)that can lend an actual hand with some dog savvy and maybe a DS as 'bait' I would be eternally grateful. She was seen this morning, hunkered down in a wooded area and they are trying to move smartly and slowly without pressuring her off again. It appears that she is slowing down a bit and I truly hope that that means that she will soon wander up to someone.

I posted this on Facebook. One of my friends moved out there and is contacting people to see if she can help. Another friend is crossposting on her Belgian lists.

What a nightmare! Such a bummer, Judith.

Glad she's been sighted and will wait to hear of a great outcome...

She is not home yet, but it does seem that she is now staying in a closer radius to where she trotted off from. Several sightings today. Thanks to the DS community, and all of you just spreading the word, a few dog people have generously offered real time help. I am impressed and touched and more hopeful than I have been thusfar.
Warm thanks to all who are in one way or another, helping to bring her home.

Oh Judith, that's just heartening news! I'm so glad she's not just disappeared from the face of the Earth, like so many of them seem to do when they go missing.

We've been in a drought all damn summer, and we're having a mini-monsoon today...perhaps if she's not real rain happy, that will keep her staying put under some kind of shelter, and easier to catch...(that's what I"m choosing to believe, anyway ).

Hope today brings a happy end to this little saga...

Yes, I agree, things look very very wet up that way. Don't you wish you could explain to them that warm crates and soft beds are available, if you just allow yourself to be caught?

Evading arrest and still outsmarting her captors. The normally super tame and friendly pooch has earned the neighborhood name of the 'black wolf'. She seems to be staying in a general area and is feeding on the bait that is being left out. In true DS fashion, one step ahead of everyone. Literally and figuratively as well.

Sometimes they're just too damn smart...
