how can I say "no?"

This is from Sunday morning. I was sitting outside at my favorite coffee shop with the dogs. The place is very dog friendly and there are lots of spots to hook your leashes to. Unfortunately on Sunday they had taken all but one of them down to get ready to make the outdoor seating bigger.
Cino just stood there like this for ever... just staring at me...

you should have let him. That would be so cute! Although trying to drink coffee with a 70 (?) lb DS in your lap may be tough.

Does he drape himself over your lap and leave his back legs on the ground?
That is Diesels version of being a lap dog, then he will put his cheek next to mine...I find it adorable!

He does that and he climbs completely in my lap sometimes as well.

I happen to know a close relative of his -ahem- who kisses me awake in the morning if the stare down ("hey, wake up! Sun is up") does not work.
He also crawls on my lap, whole or in part, but moving him off can be a bit more challenging, since he can resist if he gets told not to.

Cino is a bit small at only 50 pounds.
If I let him he will crawl up in my lap, put his front legs on my shoulders and nibble on my nose/chin. ...cute at first, but NOT so cute when he get's insistent about it. He really likes to crawl in my lap when I'm sitting in my Adirondack chair at home. ...again not so great when he decides it's time to jump up and protect the porch.

when I first got Cino I stressed over his size. Then learned that a small DS doesn't mean he doesn't have intensity. When I was training him in Schutzhund the helpers loved how much power he had for "such a small dog."

thats what I love about the DS, they are a nice medium sized dog that can pack a punch.
