Meet Java

Java was brought into a shelter in Chicago, IL sometime early in 2011. She was found as a stray with a male. I was made aware of her just after pulling 3 dogs from the Chicago area and had exhausted all local fosters. I didn't have options and the shelter felt like they did...so I didn't hear anything more.
3 months later I received a call, which was followed by a HUGE Facebook campaign. After 3 months of living at the shelter (together.....) the staff came in to find that the senior (and I mean OLD LADY) had given birth to a puppy. By that point, I had room and I was able to get them pulled from the shelter that day (thank goodness because all of the irrational bunny huggers were suddenly interested once there was a pup - funny that they weren't jumping up and down for mom and dad). I brought the whole family down here to TN.
Dad was fixed and placed long ago. He was somewhere in the 4-6 range. Justice, the pup, was kept back because she showed good work possibility. However, she turned a year on June 6th (my b'day, the other piece of irony) and she just hasn't matured yet or shown any intensity. She's happy here and we'll see if she goes to a pet home or working home shortly.
Java was the one who was left behind. She must be 100 years old
OK, maybe just 8-10. I think its incredible that she had a pup. She has crinkled ears from repeated previous hematomas, no teeth left in her head.....but she FLIPS into a Fus like nobodies business. She is GREAT with big dogs, but wants to eat little ones (and cats). But she just has SO much personality. When I first brought her into the house, Justice was only a few days old and that was her priority. So Java was great with my cats. We did adopt her out once, but that didn't hold true with their cats. She came back, and has never had an interested person since.
SO.....what's a girl to do? Eventually, the seniors dogs (especially the easy, really wonderful ones) just need a place to call home. So Java is here to stay. I need to photograph her mouth though. LOL. I haven't seen so much dental wear ever before.
