DS and Grapes

I know some dogs have major issues with grapes/raisins, but is it an individual thing, or are certain breeds more prone to this. If so, are DS less or more likely to have problems. I have several grape vines around the property, and all prior dogs have had no problems. ( the Aust.Cattle Dog mix pulled them off the vine and ate them regularly)
Aside from the grape question, Kella likes figs, fruit and leaves??? ( she seems to consider the leaves as much a treat as her lamb and rice jerky pieces) Other than possible loose stools, is there any other problems this is likely to cause? thanks..

Grapes, unfortunately are bad for all dogs of all breeds.

The dog may not show any adverse effect from eating them, but it appears that eating even one grape will cause a tiny bit of irreversible kidney damage, every time they eat them. Like yours, my dogs can find wild grapes on the property and will happily help themselves, just like my horse will eat persimmons, which can also be really bad for a horse. I try to prevent bellying up to the fruit-bar as I can, but am not always successful. I know my dogs help themselves to grapes, persimmons, may apples, wild plums, passion fruit and prickly pear buds. And yes, I do feed them.

Thank you. I wasn't aware grapes would damage all dogs. I had heard of dogs being more sensitive to grapes not surviving, but that was it. Luckily, the squirrels, birds, and raccoons get most of them. I will try to keep her from eating them as well, and trim them up, or take them out where possible.

yes, described grapes perfectly, but sometimes [ luck of the draw] just one grape can be enough to kill even a big dog. like people taking acetaminophen - 1can sometimes almost randomly cause rapid death. but usually just builds up damage, so if your dog continues, it will eventually get to that last one.
also persimmons cause inflammation of the small intestines and thus can be nasty. suspect cumulative if fairly regular habit. pits of peach, pears can cause outright obstruction of intestines, but they also contain cyanide. i would not be surprised if figs also do, so you might want to check whether figs contain ANY cyanide, because that is definitely cumulative.
good quick guide - tho certainly not comprehensive[ does not mention danger of nut molds - walnut esp] - is ''webMD, foods your dog should never eat''. google that and you'll go right to a convenient and informative magazine slide show.
