Sleepyfloyd,
The leerburg site has free podcast from Micheal Ellis that show how to start obedience with food for puppies. Well worth watching as he teaches on it as well They have a good amount of free podcasts and good info on that site as well.
My advice keep sessions short, 5 min several times a day, and fun. Use fodd to lure into position then reward when he gets there. Start adding verbal cues as he shows understanding of where he is supposed to be, Again short and fun is important!!

Congrats on the new puppy. I'm brand new to this forum and a new DS owner also. I second the Leerburg site. Back around Christmas time they had very good discounts on the Michael Ellis videos, I bought all of them. They work awesome, and I'm not an experienced dog handler. I would start off with the videos that address training with food rewards and playing tug with your pup. They are both very good videos.
