hi all,
i'm a new member to this forum. wondering if you could all tell me your opinion. i live in california and rescued this dog earlier in the year. he is a lovely dog with a great temperment. we get people asking us all the time what kind of dog he is. best guess we think he is a german /dutch shepherd mix. what do you think?

Hello,
Can you provide some more information -
- possible age
- height / weight
- etc ...
The angle of you photo's makes him look very small.

hello. in this photo he is about 9 months old. he is now about 1 year now and he was 62lbs at last vet check (1 month ago). he is 24 inches tall (from front paws up to the top of his sholders). 8 inches wide and 28 inches long. i'm not sure if these are the type of measurements you are looking for? hope this helps.

Nice coloring! He looks close to full to me. I dont see much GSD in his body structure, definitely DS front legs, not GSD. Rear and tail (cant tell really from the pic) maybe GSD, but then again from everyone's pics of their DSs on this forum here, could be DS rear as some look just like him. Same with head. My opinion is DS. Either way, he looks to be a 'keeper.'!!! ENJOY!! Share more pics and stories with us.

Welcome.
You can always post more pictures. The size fits a DS, and so does the brindle

Yes, more pictures! It's hard to tell--sure looks like a DS. The only thing a bit un-DS-ish is rounder eyes than most and is that some mottling or pink color inside his ears? I've seen pink skin in ears but not usually that bright. Judith is right--size and weight are within parameters though. Post some pictures if you have them--and see if you can take a "show" picture, one on ground level from the side and one from the front. He is cute!

For the most part he looks DS to me, but in that first pic you posted laying in the grass, his expression almost looks like an Akita! Body looks Dutch, for for whatever reason his face strikes me as Akita in that shot.
Ahhh, who cares. He's adorable!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

I agree, heavier muzzle, more wrinkly forehead - lol very technical I know.

The heavier head (last pic for me, not so much the ''in the grass" one) could also be age related. muzzle-forehead ratio seems a bit short, but I will honestly say that he looks as much and even
more like a DS than some of the dogs that are the product of two DS parents. If he is an imposter, he is doing a good job.

I suspect that you might be right about the GSD background, but that is based on the very GSD looking tail for me.

OMG

You agree with me Judith
But, I really do see a DS kind of look, not so much the Akita, a real youngster-face tho. Anyway, nice dog!

Looks like a beautiful DS to me! I would be willing to honor him as a DS and say welcome to this forum. What a lovely dog to find!

It won't become a habit. I promise. (I might have written a different reaction, or none at all, if I had noticed you had posted about the tail)
Just kidding....
