Hi new member here. Don't own a Dutch yet but really considering it for the future. Looking for breeders and also trying to find some people to learn one of the protection sports from. If not we will probably train for tracking.

Where in NM are you? North or South generality is good enough if you don't prefer to state city/town/village. I would hazard a guess based on choice of username but don't want to be presumptuous. Our search has yielded a little bit of information for NM/AZ/TX area I could pass on - both good and bad.

In fact, there's an active discussion over on NADSR FB page right now about a DSX at the Santa Fe shelter as I type this. Not that you personally should go get her, mind you, but as an example that there are dogs in need in the state.

I'm in Farmington, NM would appreciate any info you can pass on! Where are you located?

I'll say this: if you want to do protection join a club first and learn, learn, learn. Don't get the pup then join a club. You'll learn a lot about training and what you need in a pup to compete. You'll also learn if the clubs around you are worth bringing a pup into. Some are awesome and some aren't. Read and watch as much as you can!

I wish there was a club here. To go to one I'm probably going to have to travel. But yeah we are trying to get to know as much before hand as possible. We are still a while out from getting s puppy. I have two older dogs at home so we are waiting until they are gone before we do.

Just popping into this thread while I'm still here to say I didn't forget about you. Just got sidetracked a little due to seeing a man about a dog. And that's no colloquialism for a change. (: I should be able to shoot you off an email later today, barring any unforeseen problems popping up.

You may have found all these on you own, but all I was going to say is the following:

1. There may be some prior drama surrounding, but there's a Mal breeder in Ruidoso who may be a good person's brain to pick for what the current state of affairs when it comes to DSs in the state. => http://www.ruidosomalinois.com/index.htm

2. There's a kennel in Los Lunas who may be another POC (point of contact) into what's going on in NM, and who also seems to have some rehomes in addition to regular sales. => http://enchantmentk9.com/ and http://www.k-9classifieds.com/listings- ... ember=2063

3. I'm personally not impressed by the breeder out of Camp Verde, AZ, from what I've seen. The again, I don't understand the whole DS/GSD mix so many seem to be producing at the moment.

4. The Mal breeder in Roswell, Kachina K9s (K-9s?), seems to still breed from time to time. If you Google, you should find their information. Might be another resource. => http://www.bizapedia.com/nm/KACHINA-K9S-LLC.html

5. There's a lot of DSs in Texas, especially Houston, SA, and Dallas/FW areas. There's a lot of scammers using stolen photos of DSs in Texas and representing them as what they are selling if you just reverse search 'em. Contacting NADSR may be of benefit because I know I've read in the past about Trudy having dogs pop up on her radar, but with a lack of a network down there, hasn't been able to do much? I don't know if that's changed or not. Hence the rec to shoot a contact inquiry off to.

Wonderful thank you for all the information fetch! I had found the ruidoso breeder before and had avoided simply because of the drama you referenced. I hadn't seen the Los Luna's breeder before or the Roswell one either. Thank you for those! I follow NADSR and will contact them as well. Just need to get to some clubs out of town and then get a group together here in Farmington. Are you located in New Mexico fetch? If so are there any clubs that you would recommend going to and meeting and watching?

In Texas, an excellent, reputable breeder is Judith Powell at Seven Pines. Her knowledge exceeds most others. My understanding is she only breeds upon request for law enforcement/military, but since not all pups always end up in work programs.... She used to mod on this forum.

Christie at Northwoods/Thunderhawk in Tennessee is another reputable five-star breeder/trainer. She was the founder of NADSR and also used to be a mod on this forum.

Both have high standards, both want their dogs placed in good hands.

Both used to take rescues, assess, and adopt out when suitable as well. They may still.

Excellent thank you for the info! I've heard nothing but good things in everything I've read about Northwoods.

I wouldn't buy anything from TX or OK unless it's from Judith. Just my opinion.
