are you warming up the camera???

Oh yeah, This is my first puppy of my own in like 7 years... I have spent a lot of time look at all the breeds and researching. Then I spent even more time trying to find the right breeder. I'm getting really impatient. I think I am driving the wife and kids crazy with my count down.

We have an 07 Dyna Wide Glide (96 cu in).

So...how many more days, hours, minutes, and seconds before the new arrival? I'm sure you know.

Have you owned/trained working-line breeds before?

We are at 3 weeks 2 days now!!!

We currently have a Blue Heeler mini!!! My wife and I have owned a few working cattle dogs blue Healers and border collie's. I was raised a pit bull lover but with everyone being scared of them it isn't fair to the breed to have one if you have neighbors within 50 miles... Other than cattle work just basic obedience as far as training experience. It has been 7 years since I had my own dog, this one will be able to go to work with me everyday and I have plenty of time for him to train me... lOL

We forget to tell you: stock up on alcohol. Plenty of it. And remember: too much is not enough.

Alcohol?

As pups their antics can sometimes only be handled with alcohol. Not because of being bad but... because when your dog run off with 3 feet of drywall in his mouth he ripped from the wall at 3 months and uses it like a frisbee while leaping over couches, it's a way to make your life less surreal. While other pups are learning to roll over and sit, your's has learned how to jimmy the door open and climb shelves to the stash of treats. Although owning working BCs and Heelers you may be more used to the antics of high drive working dogs; just picture that times a hundred and that's a DS pup. Insanely fun but also requires a bulk member discount at the liquor store lol.

What kennel are you getting the pup from? What are the lines?

He is a Carlos pup. Alphak9kennels.

Try coming out of the shower only to find your very comfy, soft , ($$$) Duvet not looking like a Duvet anymore, but like there was an explosion of feathers in your room, only to find one of your dogs sitting so gracefully pointing at the other one who is covered in feathers, laying so comfy on a pile of ripped bedding.

HA Yes, true.

Just to give you a little more background on the FAM.. the wife was a Vet Assistant for 13 years prior to our recent move due to Uncle Sam's needs. I'm AGR for the National Guard and typically work in remote locations. I have been a MP for 15 years but not a handler. We were both raised on Farms and love animals of all types. We have 2 children 7 (son) 10 (Duaghter). Over the last several years due to my wife job we have recieved several rescues into our home and lost a lot of furniture and other vauable assets. I run atleat 3 times a week varing fro 2 to 5 miles first thing in the morning and me and the kids do a short run on Sundays prior to church weather premitting. At the house we live in the new pup will have around 5 AC to play on with cows and other wildlife and a inground pool. Pup will be attending work with me daily if all goes well so he will spend very little time alone and since the wife is doing the whole house momma thing he will be in great hands there if needed.

Our BH mini has unreal ball and stick drive so Annie will help wear him down in the yard. We also have a 10 x 20 concret floor kennel with a 6x8 block welping house attached for the longer days when he cant go with us(he will be spending the nights in a crate inside). We are a really active family and generally stay outside until dark.

I'm really excited about getting him and i'm hoping our home suits his needs and wants. I totally agree with the smarter thing and that is one of the many reasons I choose this breed. It has been 7 years since i had my own ME dog and i cant wait. I lost my last one(pit bull) and it has taken this long to decide what was next.

All i can say is be ready for the question. Erin (wife) says i have been clicking and petting the puppy in my sleep. I think i have drove her crazy thru this process, but she is excited also.

Please fill free to point me in the right direction and give me any ideas. I take constructive correction really well. I'm sure the puppy will give me my fair share also.

Nope a Blue Heeler Mini... Annie is 2 years old and ways 17 pounds. She was brought in to be put down at 6 weeks old due to a stomach issue. The wife couldnt do it so she asked the owner if she could try to raise her and here we are.

Oh right, you said that a few times LOL, when I saw BH I think Basset Hound HA.
