I thought you had a Nicky Verlee family member in your collection. Am I behind on facts or just confused?
Love new pups ears. It looks like something I could have bred. (good grief, I had whoppers out of Arras x Yaska and I really think that I could have won the biggest ear competition hands down, so please do not be offended by my ear observation)

Hey Judith!
Geisha is the Nicky baby - the one with the ears. Arca is a Nicky daughter. Asheley imported her as a finished PH1 bitch. I LOVE this puppy so far. She has all of the bad habits that Willow had at 9 weeks - baby gates are not an obstacle, nothing tastes better than June bugs and other beetles, that sort of thing

And please don't think I would ever be offended by ears comments I think the flying saucers on the side of DS puppy heads is what makes them the cutest pups by far!!!

Willow. Almost afraid to ask.....

I do agree that DS pups are the cutest creatures. But once you have seen a tiny pup with tiny standing ears, you are likely to fall for that look too. (usually, the pups who's ears stand early though, the perky looking ones, are not going to be the biggest pups, but that standing phase early on, is irresistable. )

Can you clarify a bit. I think that is really interesting and a neat way to get some insight at a younger age. I have seen big ears that stand, big ears that flop and little, tight ears that stand really early.

In the pics of Geisha at 5-6 weeks old, both of her ears are down. When I get her at just under 8 weeks, she had one up and one down. A day or two later, the other came up. She was about 10 pounds 2 weeks ago, and has gained about 6. Whatcha think?

There are no scientific data to back up my claims/obersvations, but it has proven true for a high number of dogs from several breeders.
I have had pups that went from the fleshy puppy ears straight to a perky stand. Those were finer built pups. It would appear likely that the dog is not using as much calcium for bone development and so there is some to spare for the cartledge in the ears? As adults, they remained 'smaller' than some littermates with slightly lighter structure. The average ear indeed stands, and flops and stands again, intermittently lifting itself over the course of the 16 to 20 weeks it usually takes to make up its mind. The only dog I had with potentially floppy ears (in the end, they stood) is heavy boned, even if the dog himself is not huge. It is most likely not to much the size of the ear itself, as the size of the fame of the dog.
