I'm trying the photo thing again. This was my first show/protection dog, Tex. He bit everyone! Just wondered if anyone else had any old, embarassing pictures to share?

Is he a Beagle? He looks nicely proportioned.

Yes that's a beagle. Not your average protection dog, but he bit anyone who picked on me! He was one of my fathers hunting dogs but unlike most hunters, his dogs lived inside. We also had a German Shorthaired Pointer at the time, and 2 other beagles. I think it was 1961. I took the GSP to an obedience class at 4-H when I was 9yrs. old and found out how much fun it is to work with dogs!!

It's amazing how much the breeds change over the years. They are so much more extreme these days in their differences.

Sounds like a great way to grow up! I too started in 4-H - obedience and junior showmanship. I think I was 9 too. OMG - now I feel old! I'm going to have to look for our class graduation certificate and double check the year.

Here is one from when I was about 6 years old. This was our 2nd dog Max. He was an Australian Shepherd mix that our neighbor brought home - they kept his sister. He was a puppy in this picture. I was always doing stuff with the dogs. So here I have hooked his collar up to a wagon to pull it. A different neighbor was teaching me to teach him how to heel and do some other obedience exercises too. I learned which side was my left by remembering which side the dog should be on. :)

Aww, how cute. Reminds me when I was a kid, my next door neighbours had a Newfoundland dog named Juno and in the winter we would hook her up to a sled and have her pull us kids in the snow. Lots of fun! No pics tho...
