I do not like dogshows that much, but in Holland you must have showed and gotten "good" or higher to be allowed to breed, so one the dogs bred by me, was at a show today and I went to support and cheer on (and cuddle) my puppy

On one of my trips to The Netherlands everywhere I went my family offered me apple pie. Never once was it "Dutch Apple Pie" as we know it in the U.S.

uhm, not sure, maybe Judith can help out here? This was an "appelflap" but I do not know if there is a translation for that...?

I know what appelflap is... grew up eating them. Especially around the new year.

The way my father made them. Peel and core the apple. Slice into 'rings', dip in batter and then deep fried. Early on they bad the batter from scratch but later (after I moved out) they found a place that sold the appelflap batter mix...

nope, that's the appelbeignet, also caaled appelflap sometimes. This one is the pastry variety, it's a triangle filled with small pieces of apple and raisin, mixed with sugar and cinnamon How 'bout a recipe corner?

My grandmother (although not Dutch!) made an apple pie thingy when I was growing up..........circular piece of pastry, apple filling inside, folded, pinched and fried. Good! The apple filling was closer to apple butter, if you know what that is.

this one goes in the oven for 15 min. And I do not know what apple butter is

Apple butter is kind of like apple preserves that is cooked for a long, long time in a big cauldron.......at a certain time of year, you used to see groups of people cooking it outdoors overnight. When finished, it is the consistency of applesauce, dark in color, a little spicier..........great on buttered toast!

aha, sounds yummie! The filling of the appelflap is fresh apple chopped up in little blocks, mixed with raisin

LoVe beignets never knew they came flavors!! you can get the batter mix at whole foods,... fry them up and coat with powdered sugar...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I could eat a thousand of them.

You are looking for the famous crumbs. Try limburgse appel kruimel vlaai. Comes pretty close to what you are looking for. (my neighbors love it, anyway)

I make a fried pie using pop biscuits rolled out, then put some apple pie filling on one side spinkled with cinnamon and a dob of real butter. Close it over and pinch along the edge with a fork and then deep fry, spinkle with powdered sugar! Big cold glass of milk and ahhhh.....make this with any kind of canned pie filling. I like the cherry myself. Oh, and beignets, they are staple down here in Louisiana. If you ever go to NewOrleans, go to Cafe du Monde at the French Quarters for beignets and coffee. Doesnt get much better than that.

Oops, sorry was off topic. Marj, thanks for sharing the photos of the dogs at the show. Very nice....they are more 'coated' than my DS but then again we dont have much winter here if that makes a difference.
