ears have not perked up
This is a quite common question, and usually the answer is to exercise patience. There isn't a true timeline for this, and I think I've seen some report as long as a year and a half.
There are some other factors to consider like nutrition or injury, but really not much else helps.

Is Duke a DS?

The brindle stripes are a dominant DNA feature for a Dutch Shepherd, so it is more likely that there is little to no Dutch Shepherd in Duke.
There are all black German Shepherds, though.

Can you trace down the father of this pup ? That can answer a lot of questions.

Thanks for your replies , cannot trace father as he only had duke and his mum , he told me his dad was a black German shepherd but his mum in pic was a Dutch shepherd? But looking on this forum mum looks more like a Belgium or German ?

There are black ds for sure, i have seen them. And they are all registered and purebred.
For ur guestion, ur dog looks more gs than ds. Time and dna test can do the trick.
