I have a 12 week old female with floppy ears. All her litter mates have erect ears. Will they go up or out? Is this a flaw?

Well she is KPNV line with papers and I got her from mother father on site with litter mates. Not too sure what you think she looks like?

My Mal's ears were like that when she was a puppy, I mean under three months and they were standing by about four months. Normally indicates it's a mix breed or something but you said it's papered so I wouldn't worry about it. Whatever you do- don't mess with her ears or try anything to get them to stand.

My girls ears took until 7 months to stand up for good and one was stable for months before the other. Looks like that puppy has some very big ears, too. Give her good hard chew toys and bones to strengthen her jaw muscles but don't fret it and don't tape them. They'll go up. She's gotta grow into those ears!

Just a random question...why does it matter if the ears flop? What is the function of the upright ears?

More accurate body language communication, less prone to ear infections, more accurate hearing, easier to see them when hiding behind the couch

Dutch Shepherds are more closely related to wolves in an unbroken chain stretching back before the last ice age. The first prints ever found of a child and domesticated wolf walking side by side- can be found in the Chauvet Cave when the pair went in together to inspect the cave drawings some 26K years ago.

So she is not 100 percent dutch shepherd as she is BRN registered with a BRN number. From what I understand this means she comes from really good lines and most of the dogs in her lines were malinois and dutch shepherd with a couple denoted with the x in front meaning they were not pure bred malinois or dutchies. Just curious your thoughts. This is the first one I have raised as a pup. I am curious if in the future it would be worth getting 100 percent pure bred dutchie... what would the difference be especially since this girl comes from KPNV stock? I appreciate your take!

The “ X “ usually denotes cross of Malinois and Dutch Shepherd which is done regularly within the KNPV lines.
