Let's get Mustang's photo thread started with a video. This is his first day home - such a playful dog.

And here's one during our hotel stay. He was drinking out of the portable water dish, and when I started to take his picture, he grabbed the bowl and dragged it over his temporary bed.

He is so adorable...

I'm glad it seems to be going well with Leela.

He really is a pocket size dog. Leela is small, too. She's only 54 lbs. He's seeing my vet on Friday, so I'll have a weight next week for him.

His DNA test kit arrived yesterday too, so I'll have semi confirmation on breed and maybe some relatives in a few weeks.

Mustang seems to have a lot of puppy behavior in him. He's a little bitey-bitey right now.

I find myself redirecting with toys a lot at the moment.

LOL this is why I like adopting older dogs.

Don't rely on a US dna tests- they do not have Dutch Shepherds mapped and it will likely dissapoint you. The one the breeder did on Riddick's pups in Europe however- had every dog in his line mapped along with all the relatives. It was neat seeing that. Size wise, he looks about six months old.

I’d try and get a better guess on his age through your vet, instead of relying on someone saying somewhere between one and three years old.

Mark. Embark and Wisdom both have Dutch Shepherds mapped. Though both were slightly different for Radar, so i understand there's some inaccuracy.

I like the health and relatives info provided by Embark.

Leela and Mustang are pooped. Thanks for calm moments. There's enough excitement coming.

So here is the break down for one of my dog's pups, "Pip"- pictured in the link playing in the snow.

https://www.azuricoyotes.fi/2020/blood- ... nd-breeds/

The final paragraph in the article from the breeder; "In the main image of this post I have my Pip, who is a whopping total of 10% longhaired Dutch Shepherd, 30% shorthair, 23% Malinois and 31% x-Dutch Shepherd."

So....

Mustang is testing his boundaries and reinforcing all the reasons we wanted an older dog.

He is good. And then, he is bad. BAD

Today, he decided digging was his fault of the day.

Last night, he whined all night in his crate.

I I reached out to trainer a friend of mine recommended, but I haven't heard back yet.

I got this, but wow I really hoped it would be easier.

Start him on obedience training with a good trainer right now. Also, get a tug, start playing with him- see what his drives look like. You need to start now as he's older but still has time to build a proper foundation. Have fun.
