Loki, a Dutch Shepherd, served with the New Bern Police Department for the past 7-1/2 years.

The 9-year-old suffered a seizure stemming from undiagnosed cancer on Sunday and passed away.

K-9 Zeke is a Dutch Shepherd born on March 1, 2021. He was brought to the US in April 2022 from the Netherlands. K-9 Zeke was paired with his handler in April 2022 and they completed a five-week training course in May 2022

In a Facebook post, officers said they welcomed K9 Hugo. He is an 18-month-old Dutch Shepherd from Poland. “Hugo will spend the next few months beefing up in the gym and doing some serious training,” said officers. “No skipping leg days for him!”

Throw Away Dog Project Founder Carol Skaziak told News 13 the department stopped communicating with her about Kanon, and she eventually learned the 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd had died.

Skaziak said then-Police Chief Greg Jones told her Kanon had a new handler within the department and passed under his supervision.
