The FDA is once again cautioning dog owners about chicken jerky treats manufactured in China. Here is the link to the article: http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/New ... 280586.htm

Many people already know the importance of checking the ingredient list on the label but it is also important to check and see where the food was manufactured. I've heard that Milo's Kitchen and Dogswell are a couple of brands that import from China but I haven't found a full list so best to just check the labels!

Dog treats are completely out in our house. If you think about how much a little bag of good treats costs! I can buy a whole pound of nice chicken breast , cook it and cut into cubes, and know what my dogs are getting. And it's still cheaper than the dog treat crap. Or a pound of real Irish cheddar cheese cut up in cubes, still cheaper. And human grade. The pet industry is out of their minds with their overprized crap! And then the dried sweet potatoes for gazzilion of $$. What's wrong with some Cape Cod Chips instead? My dogs also like apples, pears, mango, etc. Since I feed raw their stomachs are able to take a lot of different stuff. An all kibble fed dog might get some problems with fruit, I know.

I feel pretty much the same way. The only 'dog treats' we use are the hard biscuits made for Kongs because those are a good way to keep our girl busy. Other than that all of her treats are human-grade meat, cheese, or a few fruits and veggies she likes because it's better for her and a lot cheaper than some of the pet treats out there. She eats dry kibble for meals but doesn't have any issues digesting the human food we use for treats.

same here, no treats in my house just lots of lovin and yummy raw stuff.

For my GS, way back in Germany, the best treat ever was a 'ripe' piece of green tripe dug in mom's rose garden. When she was pulling unkraut, he came rushing over, dug it out, shook the dirt off and savored it.

He also got once a half pig head. Didn't see him for a day in his kennel, was 'working' on it in his dog house and all that was left over were the teeth!!!! My mom got almost a heart attack when I had the pig head laying in the kitchen sink, I wanted to douse it with boiling water just to make sure... When the boiling water hit the head, the pig ear curled and it looked alive. I screamed like hell and mom came running . Yeah, the good old days

Wow, that would be creepy!!!!

Sounds like treats at my house Everyone freaks out about the "parts" rabbit ears, and feet, etc. and the whole mice that got stepped on in the night were NOT a big hit! (banned, actually ).

For the KONG I use to put raw or cook meat in and let it in the frozen for a few hour and after we have a few hour for myself quiet..... LOL

Ho my God, I can imagine my last boyfriend seing one of my dogs with a "real pig head " , I love this ....

Lauren, how about stickin' the dead mouse in kong and freezing it? That should be fun too!

Oh, no, Eva. The 3 other family members banded together and were VERY clear~ NO MICE.

They did not say anything about rats, however....

Our girl has no interest in eating small animals (which is great since we have a cat and 2 ferrets). We had a chipmunk get into the house once and she just carried outside and played with it, never tried to eat it.

Just personally, if a country allows melamine and other synthetic products to be processed in baby formulas for the babies of its country causing tens of thousands of deaths and permanent liver failure, I wouldnt trust any other consumable products from that country as well. If it says "Made in China", dont eat it!!
