Ok everybody hates/likes certain breeds but I was seriously taken aback when I heard someone call the Dutch Shepherd ugly! I know I couldn't picture myself seeing the DS as ugly in any way. I was pretty bored anyways so I decided to show you guys:

I truely believe there are no "ugly" dogs, but some come close.

The poster made a comment about the dogs having to apparently "hover" as well. I think they were being sarcastic. Those Hollanders are weird about their wit

Im going to try to give this person the benefit of the doubt, I can't imagine anyone thinking they are really ugly, right?

I think DS are very pleasant to look at, such a natural looking dog with alert expression, very nice in proportions, not to small, not to big, with nice movement etc. But it's good not everybody likes them, I think it's always bad for the breed if it becomes too popular

Well, there are some funny looking dogs out there, I grew up with Basset hounds! Good, let people hate them, then they wont be over bread. I saw an issue of one of the tabloids, one actress had a Mal, and the controversy was over the dog kissing the boyfriend. My first thought was " oh great" If SHE has one, others will want one too.

When I was looking for a dog trainer to teach us Rally a friend of mine spoke to a trainer friend of hers and told her about us. My friend later told me that when she spoke to the trainer about Zodiac the trainer asked if she was "A good looking Dutch Shepherd or one of those ugly ones". Thankfully she agrees with me that Zodiac is gorgeous, although I am definitely biased

I have seen some Dutch Shepherds who I personally didn't like the look of, usually because their body proportions seemed off or their markings didn't look as nice as usual. But I wouldn't call them "ugly". The only person I've ever heard of who actually HATED Dutch Shepherds was a guy who works with German Shepherds and after seeing a couple of Dutchies with terrible work drive has come to the conclusion that "All Dutch Shepherds should be taken out back and shot". That horrified me.

The dude in the orgiginal "ulgy" post is kidding, truly. Very funny to me.

But hey! Time for a confession. I had a malinois and was ased if I could please foster a pup for the KLPD drug dog school in Holland. When I was told is was a DS I said 'no way' because I had no use for those ugly stripes. But the cop who asked me was persistent. And so I fostered the pup. And it grew on me!!!
Much and many brindles later, it turns out that the brindle and the contents of the package have grown on my husband too. He was a staunch malinois supporter, but his last two dual purpose K9's have been brindles. Bitches, no less.

I have a DS right now, who should win the 'ugly' contest hands down. I imported her, and I love her to death, but dang...show stock she is not. It's a shame, because I truly like a good looking working dog, that is put together nicely, but you cannot win them all, so.... (she is my beloved ugly duckling)
It's okay for the kraut lover to hate the brindles. I have no use for most GSD's. I do not voice that opinion by offering to take them out back and shoot them all but I assume the person who so hates DS's may have some maturing to do yet. I would not lose sleep over it, really. I bet I have dogs that will work circles around his any day of the week. His loss!

My mother-in-law to-be is a staunch German Shepherd (German Showline) person. She has a large kennel of them and shows all over the country and in Germany...she is very successful and has lovely dogs, some of them can even work!

I haven't yet told her about the Dutch Shepherd puppy we got....I can envision her face when we show her the little tiger! She will probably ask what "it" is or if "it" is a Hyena or Pit Bull mix!!

What if she talks her son out of marrying you because of your obvious irrational nature?
(She will have to assume some insanity runs in your family, after this)

lol wow, I get that sometimes, Merlin is the only DS that I know if this area, and is definately the only one in the town I live in. I have had people ask if he is a pitbull mix..... seriously do you see a short block head of a pit, because I see a shepherd.

I get asked if Sugar is a cattle dog or hyena most frequently. Have been asked about Pitbill too. I think people see the brindle and think Pitbull
