Although I am from North of the Weisswurst Aequator (White Sausage Equator) and considered by Bavarians as "Sau Preusse" (it's a little bit like the North and South here in the old days) - this is what I know about this spectacle: It runs for 16 days from late September until early October. It started in early 1800s as celebration of the crown prince of Bavaria getting married.
I was there once many, many years ago. I have never seen so many happy drunken people from all over the world. I guess that how you can achieve world peace. Give them some beer and bratwurst and everybody gets along.

yup, it's from late september till start of October, and I hate it  :D Drunk people sitting in lines on "beer-tables" singin' along to the most horrible folk-music you have ever heard... not my thing... Maybe it's because I do not like beer (I prefer the stronger drinks  ) and without beer...it is BORING :pint:
But hey, we will try and get some fest set up here...

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Mix your beer with tomato juice (poor girls bloody mary), and the party gets more interesting. :pint:

Yeah nice! That shouldn't be a problem, since Taz and I just relocated back to Germany. And next weekend we will have a small copy of the Oktoberfest in my town.

I didn't think you could get the Vodka at Octoberfest.

You could celebrate our October Holloween holiday at home, I have just the right bottle of Vodka for that, you just have to dress up like a ghost and hope the dogs don't attack while you get their picture! :pint:

Tell us about yourself: I have a small kennel breeding working line Dutch Shepherds, and just stumbled on this forum while browsing the internet. We train our dogs in police K9 work primarily, with hopes of being able to compete in the near future.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

I have plenty of bite-fest pictures, yes.
But under this October fest topic, I will sit back and wait for the interpretations of the German beer-bash. (nicer way of saying zauf fest) Who knows. Maybe we will get lederhosen and funny hats with feathers, beer, sauerkraut and bratwust? Or Dirndl, do you think that would pass? Or must that be considered too Austrian? :?

I'll stick with the beer then, Dingo had a Zauf Fest on his birthday, and since I do not like beer, I made him drink it :dsrazz:
