OH MY GOSH, YOU GUYS.

Post by Mobil »

DH's job is right down the street from the Flint animal shelter, so he often goes there on break to pet cute things.

He sent me a pic of a puppy with its head down with Mobil's exact markings and ears, and I texted back:

Image

She was found on the same road as where DH found Mobil, on Tuesday, two weeks ago, and turned into the shelter. Same day he found Mobil. She'd been held in the stray cages for two weeks.

So I texted my daughter and showed her the pic. She was like OMG are you going to get her? I said I didn't know because we kind of spent our extra money taking care of Delco, and she said she would get her for us since Mobil has been moping around.

I called the shelter to see if she was still there and described her and told them the name that was on the cage and they said they weren't sure. I explained that we had her brother and that my husband had been there a bit ago to play with her and could I bring Mobil with us to make sure they get along, and they said sure thing, we'll expect you, and I said we're on our way.

DD met us at the shelter, and when we went in, I was told I could go back to the cages and look for her. She wasn't in any of them. DD looked in one of the meeting rooms and saw her in there with an older couple.

We waited. they came out of the room ready to take her home. Mobil saw her and went nuts, happy wagging and squirming and trying to get to her.

They adopted her right in front of us. I might have cried a little. DD gave them her number and told them if it didn't work out, could they call us.

Old couple; the woman had a four footed walker and barely shuffled along. We were outside with Mobil waiting for him to pee before we got in the car, and when they came out, I decided to talk to them. I told them what kind of dog she was, how much exercise she would need, her high prey drive, and how big she would get after they told me that they just wanted a medium sized, indoor, house type dog who would get along with their 4 cats. She told me she was slated for hip surgery soon.

I wished them luck and told them to invest in a big gate because Mobil could jump a regular baby gate, and please don't hesitate to call us if she was too much for them.

Not five hours later, DD's phone rings. they've made a terrible mistake. She's crazy. they can't handle her. Can we come get her?

We jump in the car and go to their house. The guy starts apologizing. "We didn't think this through," he says. They thanked us profusely. Gave us two bags full of food and treats and toys for her and refused to take any payment for her. They just wanted her to have a good home and they could tell we would take care of her and she would have a playmate. I cried. He hugged both of us and thanked us.

I can't believe this happened. They love each other. The paperwork for her was in the bag. The shelter had her marked down as being 8 months old! No wonder they thought she would be smallish. She's not more than 10 or 12 weeks old! She's labeled like her brother. With a "T" on her chest.

I was texting DH while DD and I were driving back with her, and he texted back, "Obviously we're supposed to have a matching set of dirty looking pig dogs."

Have you ever had two pups together before????? (Much less DS/DSish pups?) The universe seemed to speak loud and clear on this one, and it's awesome...but...you have TONS x 5,000 worth of daily, consistent work on your hands, including ensuring they don't bond with each other the way they should be bonding with you.
Though I can only hope to become the person who my animals believe I am, the things that they have taught me have made me a better human being. ~~~Sharon~~~

congrats, i think. very very cute. and so glad 2 strays are safe together with you.

having just raised 2 puppies 2 1/2 months apart in age and 1 1/2 months difference in arrival at home, you will need to be very serious about training each separately and socializing each separately. otherwise, you will have chaos, 2 dogs that resist your direction, and 2 dogs that potentially will not take to outsiders - whether people or dogs [ or may be fearful ]. on this latter point, the socializing [emphasize separately!] - especially taking each of them places and exposing to lots of indoor and outdoor situations - should begin NOW; it gets to be too late to be easy or perfect very very quickly as their attitudes toward the outside world are developing RIGHT NOW -and 2 pups [ siblings i am sure makes it even worse ] just want to focus on each other.

good luck.

EDIT - Sharon wrote her post while i was slow in writing mine, but obviously we are both addressing the same, very serious issue. just want to emphasize that with 2 cute pups new to the house, there is a temptation to think you you have plenty of time to get around to training and socializing - or even worse - lull yourself into thinking that they are great and everything will work itself out in time. low key, but persistent, structured training of the basics [ plus care-in-use-of-teeth around people ] should start very soon and constant exposure to the world of people and their pets needs to start TODAY. for the next several months, each separately needs to go places and see and experience stuff; otherwise, you will have 2 dogs that do not know how to operate safely and securely [without fear or fear aggression] outside the confines of your immediate at-home, family situation - if even that! not equating ''socializing'' with meeting and playing with every other dog in the neighborhood though good socialization will get each pup use to the presence of ''strangers'' whether they be people or dogs. the goal is calm confidence in all situations, including other dogs.

if you are careful and work hard and do it right, the end result can be just amazing. EVERYONE can be happy and proud. it is also wonderful to see how 2 DS can make each other so happy. in my experience, DS really value the company of other DS [or Mals]; they play differently with their own kind, and you can see the intellectual stimulation at work as they analyze and plot together.

Turbo has a white "T" on her chest. Mobil has a white "M" on his. She looks girly to me, she's a bit smaller, but her feet are flat from being in a cage for two weeks, so she walks like a clown. Her ears are standing up more than Mobil's, and her fur is a little softer and a little longer.

Sadie was in a cage while she was a pup too, her legs were a bit crooked and she paddled when she walked, she did grow out of it as she got older and stronger.

I'm happy you are able to get a little peace and blessing after a rough few weeks. I'm a little nervous to hear of a first time DS owner with two puppies though. Make sure you read up on littermate syndrome and are committed to raising the two with separate training and rules.

I'm glad you showed up at the shelter when you did. I've tried pulling dogs for NADSR from there for years and their adoption policy isn't in the dogs' best interest.

I think I have a pretty good idea where Mobil and the new one came from now that multiples are appearing. There's a couple in Capac that bought a Cher Car dog a few years ago. They recently bred the dog and thought they'd get $1200 for the pups. Their logic was that even though they didn't title or health test the dogs, taking $800 of what they paid would be a bargain. As far as I know, nobody bought a pup and they were either given away or dumped which would explain both puppies you've come accross. I've been waiting for them to show up in shelters. I guess it's starting.

I will try to get more info for you if you're interested. If these are from the coyple I know of, the dogs come from great lines, just the parents weren't tested or titled.

I lived in Capac for 8 years before we moved out here in 2010. My son still lives there.

I thought they might be from CherCar's stock because they look just like them. I told DH it feels like someone saw $2000 dog and wanted to make money back from getting dogs from them. Assholes.

I'd love more info.

Ok, if you're talking about Jennifer from the puddles place, I saw that her DS had a litter of on Dec. fifteenth of 2013, which makes those pups six months old. I saw a listing for a six month old DS in Louisiana whose sire and dam listed were her dogs, so she sold at least one of them. Also, the sire of those pups was bought from CherCar and was only seven months old when she bred them.

So these pups can't be from her unless she has another dog that she bred in Jan or Feb, right? Because it takes six months for another heat?

just addressing timing: if we all got the pups' ages about right, mostly likely birth date for Mobil/Turbo is around April 1 - 11, so you have april fools pups!
i think when you debuted here, Mobil was judged to be 9 - 10 weeks. now 2 weeks later, that still looks right - they both seem they could be 11 - 12 weeks old.
