- Tell us about yourself: Hello, we have rescued a new addition. His name is Kitty and he was saved from poor conditions in downtown L.A.. we saw him posted on craigslist and couldnt srop thinking about him, the next day we decided he was the one. As we had been looking at getting a pup anyways. We were told he was 8 weeks when we got him and he had been dewormed, and had shots. We were alao told he was a black lab and Australlian shepard mix. After a trip to the vet the next day, none of that held up. HE WAS ONLY 6 WEEKS!!!! had worms and no shots. Weighed 7.4 pounds, happy to inform 3 weeks of having him anf he is a whopping 15 pounds!
Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
Hello, please help. We think we may have just been lucky enough to have adopted a Dutch! we have rescued a new addition. His name is Kitty and he was saved from poor conditions in downtown L.A.. we saw him posted on craigslist and couldnt srop thinking about him, the next day we decided he was the one. He is fiesty! Eats like he is half pot belly pig lol . He is not to fond of people, especially new people in the house but does just fine around people outside the house. He is always nose to the ground outside, and sooooo smart. Has learned come, sit, stay, ball, and sock lol. He LOVES to hunt flys and spiders in the house, we always know when hes found something because he barks at it ferociously. He is too funny up and down the stairs and leaps like a frog down them. He sleeps.on his back, feet spread completely apart...too cute.
Anyways hes 9 weeks old in 2 days and 14.8 pounds he has a pretty sleek coat.but his tail not so much. It has very long almost course hairs and a little fluffy fur on his butt and chest. All his paw pads are different colored, some are black some are pink, and some are a mix of the two

- Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

I'm not a very good judge in this category. I'm sure someone will chime in and give an opinion. My opinion is he is absolutely adorable no matter what he is.

OMG he is so cute !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
something about his face is telling me he may be a mix. We would probably get a better idea as he starts to grow. The way his ears are hanging are a bit low, but I could be wrong.

"Lucky" is one word to describe it. You'll probably come up with additional words if it is a DS.Kitty_the_dog wrote:We think we may have just been lucky enough to have adopted a Dutch!
Kitty may be a little to young to make a determination, but what a cutie.
Thanks for rescuing!

In case you are wondering, I deleted your other post under "Photographs." This post had more information and was in the right section.
Very cute pup. Hope you read through some threads to learn what's in store for you with this guy, even if he's a DS-mix. Be prepared for your life to change.
But, you may never know what he is...except wicked cute.

The ears make me think mix, as well, but it's so hard to tell with puppies.
That is one adorable pup!

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
Yeah i noticed the ears are a little more floppy then the pictures i have seen of the dutchies. Ut Kittys ears arenkind of all over the place. His ears go from floppy to straight up and everything in between. The people who we rescued him from told us Australian shepard black lab and he had to get rid of him because their apartment didnt allow german shepherds, and that he argued he was an aussie. which seemed strange that if he was an Australian they would catagorize him with german shepherds . So i am thinking maybe he knew or thought thebother dog was a german shepherd and just didn't tell us because he wasnt sure if we would have the same issue.
Anyways thanks for that opinions. He is already atrached at the hip to us so no matter his mix he is staying
, just may need to make use of the alcohol cabinets haha

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
What an adorable little guy!!!! So CUTE! He does seem to look mix-y… maybe a bit of Plott? I'm assuming the guy who you got him from had the mother of the pups so maybe that would help narrow the mix? As he gets older you'll get more of an idea. Pups are hard to tell. Either way keep uploading pics of this adorable pup because we love puppies!

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
Thanks
. Well see he had told us that his mother breeds australlian shepards and a black lab got into the yard and thats the mix but his mother couldnt keep the.puppies at her house. So we never saw either parent of our little guy. Not to mention he told us he was 8 weeks old and was only 6. And was taken away from the mom at 4 weeks old..soooo cruel. What im super confused about is he told us that our pup was the last one to go and he had 8 litter mates then we saw him posting ads on craigslist two days later and a week later for supposedly the same breed but females and they looked NOTHING like him.

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
Still so freaking adorable! Sounds like the guy was just lying all around. One of the pics sparked a memory… in this section if you go to page two, there should be a post titled "Other Breeds that are Brindled" or something, started by karen, and it's a list of other brindled breeds. The pic of the Brindle Anatolian is sticking in my mind when I see him. Not saying it is or isn't a match, just right now he has sorta the same face. Then again I thought my guy looked like a greyhound when he was smaller. He had a skinny face.

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
thank you! i will defiantly look into it. someone on here suggested Plott hound, and after looking I can totally see that as well. his personality is just so on point with how others on here describe their dutch, espically the random bursts of energy. Kitty literally just will be laying down, get up, and run full speed as fast as he can around the couch, under the table and across the kitchen, probably 3 or 4 laps at a time then lays down and passes out... possessed lol

Re: Is kitty the dog a Dutch?!
so I looked up those breeds, none really seem right on to me. most of those breeds have a slick coat. Kitty has a fluffy chest and butt, and long course hairs on his tail and back right above his tail. the hair on his back by his tail almost looks like the hair on a ridgeback. but everywhere else he has a pretty sleek shiny coat.
