Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

spider attack

Post by karenz »

So once again Xander has saved my life. I got in bed and called him up to get our snuggles. All of a sudden I see this monster spider crawling on my blanket. I scream and snatched the blanket flinging the spider against the wall between the bed and the wall. Xander looks at me like I'm crazy. :yernuts:

I said Xander get it, get it. He had seen it crawling before I flung it. He jumps up and starts sniffing, I've never seen or heard this kind of serious sniffing before. He was on s mission. :rambo:

I slowly pulled the blanket from between the bed and the wall. And there it was. I screamed GET IT. Xander immediately devoured it, swallowed it and everything. He always plays with bugs but never actually swallows them. Just plays with them until they are dead and boring and leaves them laying there. :hammer:

But he ate this spider. I think it was a baby wolf spider. After he ate it he plopped down snuggled up against me and gave me kisses right on the face. Yuck, spider kisses. But he saved my life so I didn't complain and gratefully accepted his kisses.

Actually, I only mind the black widows and the yellow sac spiders because they are somewhat dangerous. I usually take photos of the interesting ones and leave them be if they're not big enough  to carry off a kid.

I don't mind bugs or spiders as long as I know they are there. But when they sneak up on me I don't like it at all. I'm so glad that Xander has my back. It was so funny though after he ate it. Like he knew he had done a good thing and made me happy. He immediately snuggled up and gave kisses, like momma I got this!
