I recently found out that all dogs that go through the public shelter system have public intake/medical/and adoption records and those records have to be released to anyone that requests it through a FOIA application. I decided to fill one out based on the little info I knew about Odin (adopted in 2010, labelled as a brindle mix, and the first and last name of the adopter). It took about a month for them to find the records as they archive anything over 3 years at a third party, but today I opened my email to this!
This is him at 4-5 months. They also have an estimated birthday of late 2009, so he's 8-10 months older than we thought. Judging by his intake date and medical records, he just celebrated his 5th birthday. Happy Birthday little Odin! I'm so glad you've made it all the way from that intake day to the big lovable dog that shares cuddles and kisses with me and works hard at everything I ask for.

Lucky you. (And lucky Odin.)Anything of interest in the records, either for general knowledge or for future good-to-know stuff?
Though I can only hope to become the person who my animals believe I am, the things that they have taught me have made me a better human being. ~~~Sharon~~~

Nothing of too much importance. I was hoping to get the contact info on his sister's adopter since they were found and came in together, but they won't release the name or contact info of a private citizen, just the public info. I think I'll still apply for her general info though just to see her picture. I was always sort of curious if she was a fawn since he seemed to prefer malinois females from early on.Raven wrote:Lucky you. (And lucky Odin.)

For medical history, it does show he had kennel cough and was treated for it, but there's no big surprise there. I also have a list of what anesthesia cocktail they use for his neuter, so that will be good info to have in the future if we ever end up doing back surgery.

- Tell us about yourself: My name is Dave and I am a huge dog lover. I have spent most of my adulthood in the US military. I have had 3 dogs with me in 5 different states, in order: Arizona, Alaska, Florida, Texas, and Massachusetts. They have all "gone ahead" now and await me at the RB, I look forward to the re-unite. The first was Sassy (looked like a dingo) who I got from the MSPCA and she lived to 16 yo. My ex-GF got Princess (blk/brindle lab X) at a puppy mill in Tuscon (along with Parvo) and she lived to 15 (last to pass, 01 Dec 10). My same ex-GF got Skeeter, a black Border Collie, from a "box of puppies" from a fellow student at school in Tucson and he lived to 11 yo. Anyways, they were "my children", I don't have any of the human variety and don't plan to. But I will have more fur children in the future, likely a DS and a Border Collie. I have seen a lot of MWDs in the military, mostly Malinois and GSDs but once I saw the DS, I fell in love!

Hi Stephanie,
If they will not give you the name of the sister's adopter, perhaps they would agree to forward your name and contact info to the owner with your desire to be contacted.
Good luck,
Dave

- Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. He died july17,2012. i am dying without him. www.youtube.com/tracesobaka www.dogster.com/dogs/637612

i so agree with Lisa. i was so sad to see Odin looking dejected. very glad that he found his way to you, Stephanie.
though, of course, i have never met Odin, i feel like i know him since i think of him as being quite a bit like Xander, with whom i am completely smitten. one photo that encapsulates my mind's idea of Odin is the photo you posted [ to a photo contest, i think ] of Odin IN an open suitcase on the floor looking up at you so excited to be with you and trying to convince you to take him with you. LOVE that. his joy at meeting Elli also has always stayed in my mind in the form of one particular photo that captured that joy.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ODIN ! you are older and wiser than we realized.
