Re: breed selection
As I've said Gingerman, you solicited opinions, and you received them over and over from different members. If this continues, I will lock the thread.
Though I can only hope to become the person who my animals believe I am, the things that they have taught me have made me a better human being. ~~~Sharon~~~

Re: breed selection
My bm wouldn't be alone, my dog sitter or my roommate would have the dog with him, but just let him out to play fetch, and use the bathroom. No training of any sort from a sitter or my roommate. Im guessing 6 days out of the month. I have meetings 2 times a month that's 6 days a month. No dogs allowed.cordeliandemon wrote:to answer the original question, no. no you would not be a suitable home for a belgian malinois.
i had a border collie for 16 years, they cannot be compared in any way shape or form to a malinois in terms of behavior, demand or just about anything else other than at some point very VERY long ago they both shared ancestry with wolves, like every dog out there does.
border collies are extremely easy to train, people loving and eager to please anyone they meet, malinois are malinois.
you may aswell be trying to compare a tricycle to an artillery tank.
and id say any dog regardless of breed, especially a puppy as youre so eager to get, would psychologically suffer tremendously if they were left completely alone for 3 days every week. no it is not acceptable.
Correct me if I am wrong, no dogs at all should be left alone 3 days a week? That's a lot of happy sport homes and pet homes that should not own any dogs.
My breeder leaves her 6 dogs kenneled on the weekend. They are fed, and let out by kennel staff on the weekend. Friday saturday and sunday. Maybe she also shouldn't own dogs.
The border collie does not compair to the bm, but who said that it I am looking for a border collie in a mal? I'm well aware of the differences in the breeds. Just as i was well aware when getting my first working breed dog. My point was to point out that I am not a first time dog owner, with a no problem golden retriever being my only dog related experience. And obviously a bit more dedicated than a weekend warrior owner.
Not all border collie are as you say, don't go around saying they don't bite. I have scars on my face from a border collie. We don't need people thinking border collies are easy going dogs either. They may not be malinois, but they are not cavalier King Charles either.

"In that case dog would not have me around Thursday Friday and Saturday.
Is this acceptable?" thoughout this thread you have made no mention of room mates or your "dog sitter", infact, youve been amazingly vague about everything youve talked about. due to this i like many others likely did, i was brought to the assumption that because you have stated in your very first post that you were "single" that this would mean your dog would be alone.
id be curious to know what this dog sitter of yours does.
"Correct me if I am wrong, no dogs at all should be left alone 3 days a week? That's a lot of happy sport homes and pet homes that should not own any dogs." okay ill try to be civil here, the word "alone" means "alone". as in nobody there. as in the example you gave (i dont know what this breeder even breeds, but theyre yours apparently) that breeders dogs are not alone, they are being interacted with and taken care of by staff.
you yourself made the comparison between the advice you were given about collies and what was being said here.
i didnt say border collies didnt bite, any dog is capable of biting whether its a chihuahua or a king charles as you mentioned. ive personally known an extremely aggressive ckc spaniel.
regardless of anything ive said you dont seem to be listening to any of the people here. likely because you have made a preconceived decision to get a mal and came here expecting everyone to agree.
you asked for opinions ,they were given whether they were the ones you wanted or not. no one here is obliged to explain themselves because you disagree with them.
i will not be getting further involved in the matter.
