Dutch Shepherd?
Zorro is a stray who I adopted from the local pound. Was told he is a bully breed. I really think he has Dutch Shepherd in him. I was walking him in the park and met a man who trains police dogs. He says Zorro is a shepherd. What do you Dutch Shepherd owners think?

- Tell us about yourself: Hello, we have rescued a new addition. His name is Kitty and he was saved from poor conditions in downtown L.A.. we saw him posted on craigslist and couldnt srop thinking about him, the next day we decided he was the one. As we had been looking at getting a pup anyways. We were told he was 8 weeks when we got him and he had been dewormed, and had shots. We were alao told he was a black lab and Australlian shepard mix. After a trip to the vet the next day, none of that held up. HE WAS ONLY 6 WEEKS!!!! had worms and no shots. Weighed 7.4 pounds, happy to inform 3 weeks of having him anf he is a whopping 15 pounds!
Re: Dutch Shepherd?

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
Can you post some shots of him standing? Side view, some different angles, maybe?

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
Is there such a thing as a picture of a Dutch Shepherd puppy standing still?
Here are a few more pics of Zorro. Right now he weighs 40 lbs. and just last week lost his bottom puppy canine teeth. His top ones are still there. His ears stand up, down and flopped sideways up on a daily basis.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
Zorro is about 6 months old now, I think. All his puppy teeth are gone much to my delight. He weighs 45 pound and still has big paws and a lot of loose skin to fill out. He has two speeds- full speed and full stop. Here are some updated pictures. Is he looking dutch?

- Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
Thanks for the compliments on Zorro. I don't think he's a pure dutch shepherd but he sure has the personality of one. I can get great head shots of him because he like to look at the camera right before he tries to take it away from me.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
He is soooo handsome! !! Love those big ol ears. Hes really stalky like mine. My.little guys only 13 weeks though and 25 pounds. Vet thinks mine is a dutch shepherd pit bull mix or a mastiff dutch shepherd mix. I HOPE not. Zoro does have the mask of a Dutch AND the ears lol. Look up brindle pitbull/shepherd mix on Google. Or boxer shepherd mix maybe.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
A black mask isn't exclusive to Dutch Shepherds, though. Cane corsos, Great Danes, Mastiffs, Lurchers, AmStaffs, Boxers, Mountain cur... there are lots of breeds that come in brindle with a black mask.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
That head has me thinking Presa mix. There's something about the ear set, how far apart the eyes are, and that white stripe down the middle.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
I guess Zorro will need to grow into his feet and ears before he looks like whatever type of mix he is. The blaze down his neck and chest isn't really white. It's speckled with brown like a pointer. What ever he is he is a good dog and a great companion. Hopefully I will survive his puppy stage.

Re: Dutch Shepherd?
If he's speckled in the white, he probably carries the roan color gene, which would lead me to guess there's some Cattle Dog in there. That might be what's giving the pointy ears and the brindle could come from a ton of other breeds. The other breeds that carry roan are mainly sporting dogs.Z_Mom wrote:I guess Zorro will need to grow into his feet and ears before he looks like whatever type of mix he is.
