Re: this is layla :)
Your pup is adorable. Good for you (and her) for adopting.
The photos are too small really. There's a sticky that describes which angles/poses work best.
If you've browsed through the threads in this section, you've seen how difficult, if not impossible, it usually is to say if a dog--especially a pup--has any DS in it.

I wouldn't bother with a DNA panel, they're notoriously inaccurate.Rosie wrote:I have looked at other threads and it is super hard. I will try to get better abgles tobight but it isn't easy lol. I want to get dna on her done but at a later time because i have a dog with thyroid cancer

Re: this is layla :)
DNA panels do not include ANY DS, so if she has ds in her, the results will come back completely messed up.
Sharon, on my computer, if i clicked on the pics, they went full screen size. [that's never happened before!]
but agree, shot of her standing from side would be helpful.
Rosie, definitely see why you brought her to the DSf, though. also, she seems very attentive and focused. the personality will say more than her looks.
are you sure she is 17 weeks, i.e., did someone guess at her age based on size?
if DS, she seems younger.
completely adorable!!!! thanks for rescuing her.

Re: this is layla :)
I will try to get more pics for sure. I work at a vet clinic and when she came in, they estimated her at 10 weeks. The story given to the rescue group was that this lady got her from a friend who had a gsd that had puppies. I have no idea what mom looks like. She is very smart, very stubborn and pays attention to everything around her. I will try to get more pics this weekend.
and thanks for the heads up on the dna! We dont do it at the clinic.

Re: this is layla :)
Rosie, based on her look and your further comment on her personality [ smart, stubborn, attentive to everything around her ], i would say she is mixed with DS and would proceed on that assumption since those traits do not come in many other packages.
if she is over 4 months, she seems small, but not impossibly small. either a GSD or DS parent could have been smallish. of course, an experienced dental opinion is maybe more accurate, but i would have guessed she was 1+ month younger than 17 weeks at the time these pics were taken.

Ok so i got these 2 pics today. She just doesn't hold still and she knows to sit for a treat so it's hard to get her to stand.
she is 18w and weighs 24.2lbs. She has grown so much..hard to notice when you see her all the time!

Re: this is layla :)
she looks like a lot of DS to me, but her behavior is the clincher.
also looks like 17 weeks in these photos. maybe a bit small - i forget at the moment. but there are threads that discuss normal weight through the progression of puppyhood.
think you got a really great dog. you are both very lucky.

She also does not cry at all at night...at all..never has. She is a little bit of a pansy for her shots though
I love her no matter what but we were trying to figure out wjere the brindle came from!
She is a fantastic dog. I couldn't ask for a better dog. So smart and so sweet.

That is one cute puppy!
I agree with John, she definitely looks the part. If you find her on the counters and she starts making Chewbacca noises and tearing around like a maniac for short periods, you'll know.

I interupt normal programming to take exception to the counter-surfing examples
. I can leave the house with a roast on the counter and my guy will not touch it. (It's one of those truly amazing things he does to counter-balance the Dr. Jekyl side in him.)
We'll now continue with normal programming.

Hahaha! Well, to be fair, mine haven't been on the counters.

Thalie has been on the chair licking the table, Sadie is big enough to just lick the table.

Turbo three times, Mobil once. He just waits for her to knock something down for him. Letsjust say the kids and husband have been thoroughly schooled on clearing away their stuff immediately.Raven wrote:Get out--do they get on the table????
To be fair to Mobil, he was on the table after a cat. Haha
