- Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

how long can they go
Me and Xander have been bike riding every day and we are building up our distance. I was wondering how far can these guys go? We started off at a mile and built up to 3 miles. Today we did 4 to 5 miles. He got poopy at the end and now at home he is zonked. Lol, I'm not complaining. But I would like to get to 10+ miles. How far can they go at a quick past and how quickly can they increase distance and time. Xander is hanging in there great but I don't want to over do it for him. I've discovered that he will literally go until he passes out but of course I don't want that. Just to build him up for some long rides. It's hard to tell when he's had enough because he plain just won't stop.

Well, since they are supposed to be in the fields all day, I say pretty long. Thalie comes with me and many times we are out for about 4 hours, sometimes we do 12 miles. Not non stop of course, we stop to jump the bikes and chat or rest. Even when we are stopped, Thalie would bark and whine to go again. I do real mountain biking trails too, so if you are doing rail trails or easier trails, you should be fine.
Thalie knows how to drink from my water back back too, She will look at me and ill squeeze water out. There are dog water back packs too. Usually I will only take here where there are plenty of streams for her.
