- Tell us about yourself: I am a brand new owner with relation to Dutch Shepherds. I currently have an female Akita (Nala) who is awesome. My desire to raise a dutch was driven from my background as a law enforcement officer and my interest in k9 protection/detection work. I will be picking up my female dutch on Thursday and look forward to contributing to the forums and utilizing them as a tool.
New owner to the awesome world of Dutch Shepherds
I am a new owner of a 9 month old Dutch Shepherd Female "Trooper". I also have just finished assisting my brother in adopting a 11 month old female Dutch shepherd. I currently have a 10 year old Akita (Nala), and a 11 year old Chocolate Lab (Oakley). My interest in owning a Dutch has grown since we began using them in our K 9 detail. I am relatively new to the breed, and any assistance would be greatful. I currently have an acre of property that is also surrounded by 500 acres of hay fields which will offer Trooper the ability to run to her hearts desire. I also intend to run in the area of my house with her as well. My brothers adoption of Libby was a blessing for him as he had recently lost his 14 year old jack Russell. Libby was purchased from the breeder by a family who subsequently dropped her as a puppy causing her to develop a bone spur in her front left elbow. The owners declined to due the surgery and had planned on putting her down until the breeder purchased her back. Surgery was performed in July and she is recovering well. We hope she is able to make a full recovery, but either way he is excited to be granted this opportunity.

- Tell us about yourself: I am: a father, a carpenter, hunter, runner. I have extensive experience with sled dogs, shepherd mixes, a wolf hybrid, a Shiloh Shepherd. I added Endeavor in April 2016. She was not working out in HRD. I train for game recovery and general utility.

With regard to assistance, start small. Build the dog's interest in you. From there, it's a matter of being fair and CONSISTENT!

- Tell us about yourself: Over the past 25 years I shared my life with a Rott, two Akitas, and a Shepherd/Husky mix. I now have my first Dutch Shepherd. Lexi was born in early September 2014. She is great in so many different ways but I could use advice from some been there done that DS owners.

I got my first Dutch Shepherd just over a year ago when he was 12 weeks. He is now 18 months. His name is Boaz (one of the good guys in the Old Testament) but it also means mighty and swift. He continues to amaze me. Would love to post a photo but don't see how. HELP?
