Is it an addiction?

I'm not ready for the next one, but I want one.

So many great candidates have appeared in various places, and I am interested in all of them.

Is there such thing as a Dutch Shepherd addiction?

I think I caught it, and it hurts.

This doesn't mean I want to denigrate the memories of Radar, but I feel lonely.

I don't think bringing home a dog denigrates his memory. When my Dal Buttons died, I promised her I would always have rescue/shelter baby. She was my special girl, and had come from a shelter. I feel it honors her memory when we open our home to new members . (I tend to think of Bramble as a honorary Dalmatian, just with stripes instead of spots.)

He took all that time to train you, I'm sure he'd want you to use what he taught you.

Before I got my Dutch Shepherd, I had a cattle dog. When I lost him, I got the Dutch Shepherd Anja right away. Then had to get another one after I put some time into her training.

The 6-month old in the Syracuse shelter looked like a great option for me, but ability to travel right now is non existent.

I really was thinking of rescuing an older DS anyway. I don't think Leela would appreciate being pestered by a young dog at this point.

Hmmm. I guess the "normal" rescue transport system wouldn't work, my guess is something could be arranged.

When we got Bramble she was supposedly 3....of course based her development, there is no way she was even 1. But Peanuts really took to being her mentor. At times, he was like a pup again, and we credit her with helping him hang on as long as he did. We really thought he would go right after Snuggled and Gotcha.

Oh my goodness, Arvin? He looks like a ball of energy and has such smart eyes. He kind of looks like Radar with the darker coloring. I'm hopeful for you.

The animal shelter in the next city over called my mom to see if we would foster an older dog for them. We let them know that we want to get Casper into training first (which is starting early next month), then YES we are ready for a third packmate The dog they wanted us to take was female, and given it would be a senior dog, we didn't think that would be so great with Bramble. Women But we'll definitely be open for another, though it may not be a DS.

I had my dog collected to either breed him one last time before he's to old, which would have to happen sooner than later given his age- or the option of doing so after he's gone. If not, I don't know if I'd adopt a dog, I'd probably look for a breeder who specialized in KNPV dogs and start over.

I'm so sorry to hear that Radar passed. RIP Radar. I'm sure he is irreplaceable to you. When I think of saying goodbye to mine some day I cant imagine suddenly being without them, and I think I would want another one too to fill the void. I'm definitely addicted to my dogs.
